remote key does not work

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm sorry if I'm not doing this right, but I new to this.

Anyway, Can someone help?

I just bought a '98 boxster (not S) about a few months ago. The lady told me the remote keys doesn't work. I can only open/lock the door with the key. She did give me all 3 keys. I thought if might be the battery in the keys, but when I replaced them it still doesn't work. I went to a porsche dealer and they quoted me $350 to reprogram the key to my car and that is for each key! Is there anything else I could do?

Thanks

Check with another dealer. That is pretty high. You should get new keys for that.

Edit. Also try search. This has been covered and there are some solutions IIRC.

I have had to have my keys reprogrammed by the dealer. They replaced the battery and set the code for free. A new transmitter will set you back ~$250. They might have meant that the remote was broke and that you'd need a new one.

However you can get used keys cheap on ebay and have them reprogrammed to match your alarm.

There is a bar code unique to each key/transmitter that has to be scanned to program the key to the imobilizer. Make sure that any key purchased anywhere comes with the necessary bar code documentation.

This thread is a little old (six years) so pricing might be a little off. But otherwise, it is good information on the ins and outs of key purchasing.

Finally got around to replacing the broken electronic portion of my key.

The dealer used the old metal key and slid it into a new head. Programmed it and i was back in the race.

$330.

OUCH!
