Leak when jacking up car

Recommended Posts

I jacked up my 996 yesterday at the engine jack point looking to remove my rear wheels for tire replacement. As I jacked up the car, there was black fluid dribbling out of the rear right side of of the engine. I thought it was oil and checked my oil level which is fine. I proceeded to taste it ... which taste similar to coolant fluid. I proceeded to check my coolant level which seems fine as well. I removed my air filter box trying to trace where the fluid is coming from .... it seems to be around the engine mount area.

Question .... is there fluid stored in the engine mount? Could it be the mount or I'm missing another hose that could be the culprit for the leak?

Thanks

Yes, sounds like your engine mount. They should be replaced in pairs.

I was shopping online for the mounts and came upon 2 manufacturers ... Corteco and Hamburg Technic. Corteco seems to be the more common product carried by most online vendors including Pelican Parts selling for about $130 each. The Hamburg Technic is off eBay by Deutchepart USA for $144 for 2 mounts. I also contacted Jeff at Sunset Import and he quoted $144 for each mount. Has anyone any experience with the Coteco and Hamburg Technic mounts? The vendors claim they meet or exceed OEM specification.

Bail on the hamburg technic. I bought some coil packs from them (eBay) Doushparts claimed were OEM. They were unmarked generic with no country of origin. I read on a BMW forum they are sourced from India and china. I would stick with OEM. I wouldn't risk adding a new vibration due to a lower quality motor mount.
