Experience with 3.6l Conversion for Boxster S

Recommended Posts

I'm considering getting my 3.2l stroked to a 3.6l. Been sourcing around and 9ff (http://9ff.de/Englisch-htm/home-eng.htm) appears to have this kit available.

However, it's mentioned in their website that the 3.6l is only applicable for 2003 Boxster S onwards. Mine's a 2000. I'm not aware of any significant differences between the 2 models that would lead to the 3.6l only applicable for the newer model.

Anyone by a stroke of luck as the 9ff conversion kit installed?

Thinking of it, there's no mention of upgraded fuel injectors in the conversion kit. A larger capacity engine will require more fuel and the injectors will probably hit 100% duty cycle on full throttle. Not a good thing I suppose.... I hope details like this is taken care of as part of their 'package' and not limited to only mechanical items like pistons, crankshaft, cams, etc....

My understanding is that there are significant wiring differences between 2003 and earlier models that cause these conversions to be difficult (read: prohibitively expensive).  I don't know the details.

Sigh...that's probably why the 3.6l conversion is available for 2003 and above Boxster S :( For 2002 and below Boxsters, some tuning houses are offering only the 3.4l ones...

Hi All

I have a friend with a '03 Boxster 3.2 S, who wants to fit a 3.6L engine from a '03 996 which he has available to him. The mechanical aspect seems fairly straightforward, but his concern is the electonics. Has anyone here done this conversion? The DME version is the same for both engines and the inputs are the same for both, but the outputs are a bit different. If anyone had some first hand experience they could share it would be much appreciated. Also, if anyone has the wiring diagrams for the DME of both engines it would be nice to see them.

Thanks

3.6L conversion start with the 2002 Boxster S.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. The car is a 2003 Boxster S, and the engine is a 2003 3.6L 996. What my friend is looking for is a kit to do the conversion, particularly the electronics. If you can help, please let me know.

Thanks

What he means is for 2002 and above Boxster S, you can go for the 3.6l engine transplant. If you have a 2001 or 2000 Boxster S, you can only go for the 3.4l transplant.

There're some significant differences between 2001 and 2002 Boxster/Carrera. One that has been mentioned is the CAN wiring for the electricals which is only applicable for 2002 and above cars.

Yes, I understand that. The post 2002 cars (both 996 and Boxster) have the fly-by-wire throttle etc. Both the Boxster S and the 996 engine I am talking about are 2003 models. I would like to think that it is simply a case of getting the DME from the 996 and plugging it into the Boxster, but I can't imagine it will be that easy. I'd really like to know if anyone has done this conversion, and can anyone recommend a company that produces a kit to do-it-yourself. The way his post read, I thought that maybe "Eurospeed" was such a supplier.
