My 2004 Cayenne TT refuses to start. The screen is red and says Steering Faulty and beeps. The shifter is locked. Car had to be put in neutral from below to be towed. Since ignition wont come on diagnostics cannot be run. Tech thought it might be ignition switch but changing that did not work. He is out of ideas and car has been dead since Thurs. Need some serious HELP!!

You need to get your vehicle to someone with the Porsche scan tool. It can interrogate key control modules without the ignition key being "on". Does the current tech working on the vehicle have experience with Cayenne as they don't not have a conventional ignition switch but more of a crank/start module.

Loren is correct... the battery can cause many faults in these vehicles.

Thanks for replys. the battery has been replaced but is about two years old. It tests good on tester. The tech is very experianced with Cayenne (20 yrs porsche tech). I have the misfortune of dealer closing in my area. My tech now works at BMW dealer. Porsche took PIWIS when they left. Nearest dealer is 200 miles. I have a Durametric but can get anything since ignition not working. Towing car 200 mi is last resort. Was hoping to find someone that had seen this fault before. There is a post on this site regarding this problem but no followup was posted.
