Textar pads

Recommended Posts

Hello all..

I did a search but didn't find my answer so I'd though I'd ask :)

A bit of a background..I recently did a pad /rotor change and a brake flush..Initially I had air in the brake lines. I flush the brakes a 2nd time and the pedal feels great. The car doesn't have the bite when breaking as of yet. I understand there's a bedding process before the brakes really catch but out of curiosity, is the Textar pad made out of the exact same material as the Genuine Porsche brake pads (prior pads)?? Thanks!!

Hello Loren...

Well I was using the Motive Power Bleeder for the first time. I just didn't go about it the correct way. When I finished flushing, I open the the Motive Power Bleeder cap on the top of the brake fluid reservoir instead of opening from the pump side and I think air released in the lines. I also open the bleed valves too much when flushing..After the second flush ( I followed your instructions this time! :)) the pedal feels great. The pads/rotors are pretty new..They seems to be bedding and feel better, but just wondering if the Textar are the same as my prior genuine Porsche pads..

Second question, if i did have to bleed the ABS how is that done?? Thanks...

If the pedal feels good, and you don't have the bite, you need to bed them. Get the car up to 50ish, and hit the brakes, slow the car down to 10 or so, then back up to 50ish, back to 10ish. Repeat this five or six times, it will burn the protective coating off the rotors, and will fit the pads to the rotors. Don't bring the car to a stop, drive the car a bit to let them cool down, then stop. You should have much better bite on the pads.

Loren, you have me thinking about the whole ABS issue..

When I did the initial flush and the pedal felt very spongy, I could actually hear air coming from somewhere. :( Can you give me some insight what that possibly was??? Any visual signs that I can see if the ABS was effected? Thanks!

There are some other issues here - have you checked the brake booster for damage due to water? or you could have a leaking (internally) master cylinder.

What were the brakes like before the new pads? (Let's try to rule out possibilities)

Well there were no issues before the new pads and rotors.

In my initial, botched brake flush the reservoir overflowed somehow. I think the cap wasn't too secure. There was a significant amount of brake fluid that drained to the trunk. I'm not positive if it came from another area. When I checked yesterday, I disconnected an electrical connection from the bottom of the reservoir and it was drenched in brake fluid (I guess from the overflow). I just wipe it off. Should I clean it with something? I attach a picture of the fluid dripping from the electrical connection. Other than that, I'm low on fluid but over the min(more fluid on the way). I didn't see anything else out of place or leaking..
