Cayenne S - Removing and installing drive belt

Removing and installing drive belt - Cayenne S Removal 1. Remove the front engine compartment cover. 2. Pull the cover of the throttle body vertically upwards. 3. Separate the electrical connection from the throttle adjuster. To do this, press on the plug at the top and bottom and, at the same time, pull off. Unclip the cable from the sheetmetal holder. 4. Release the fastening bolts on the throttle body. To do this, turn the bolts 45 degrees anti-clockwise.

Hi Loren,

I received a new Conti Tech multi rib belt and have the removal installation instructions. The only question I have is the new belt seems to have two different sides. Both are ribbed of course, but one seems to be impregnated with a crystalline substance. Is there an inside or outside to this, or does it matter which way it goes on??

After replacing my coolant tubes, water pump, s. belt ect a couple of comments:

Another DIY for the serpentine belt says the idler arm (release arm) is 27mm, on my '06 "S" it's 30 mm. Also, when you're replacing the belt let the new belt hang lengthwise to straighten itself out as long as possible. When you first pull it out of the sleeve it's fairly curvy and usually not in the places you need it to curve, makes it a challenge to get all the slack out to put it back on the idler.

As far as my (old) serpentine belt's condition, it was still in very good shape, no cracks. So based on my (1) data point I feel I could have waited until I hit 90k mi. (I'm at 65k now) to replace the belt and the water pump.

So NelsonMX, which side did you make the "inside" of the belt? I've got the same question, seems like the "less tacky" side would go on the outside with the stickier side facing the pulleys, right?

Thanks

Jeff
