Stereo shuts off after a loud POP sound

Recommended Posts

When I get in my 2003 Boxster I sometimes (seemly random, yet only when cold) and I hear a loud POP sound through the speaker system. If the radio is on, it shuts off and comes back on with Porsche logo on screen but no sound. Turning off the car and back on does not fix it, however pressing the CD button causes it to shut off again and then go to FM station preset 1.

The key does not have to be in the ignition for this POP sound to occur. Sometimes it happens just after I open the door before I can put the key in.

The alarm module under the drivers seat was replaced recently, but I do not recall if it preexisted that. The previous owner had the stereo replaced by Porsche a few years ago, but I don't know why he had it replaced.

I was guessing the amp was bad, but I'd rather be wrong. Any help?

sorry to be ignorant on that. so where do i find this bulletin at, and where can i acquire the cd to update my system?

TSB's are available to contributing members here, or you can try contacting your dealer. The CD would be a dealer item.
