Airbag warning light - fault 31

Recommended Posts

The airbag light came on this week on my '99 996. Durametric says it is fault code 31 - ignition circuit, side airbag, passenger.

I tried to clear the fault with Durametric. The light does go off but comes back on after a few seconds.

Is this something i can correct or does it need to be done by the dealer?

Fault codes 14, 15, 30, 31, 41 -- Ignition circuit, passenger's side airbag

Possible cause of fault

- Short circuit to B+/ground or open circuit in the wiring between the passenger side airbag unit and the airbag triggering unit

- Passenger's side airbag faulty

- Triggering unit for airbag faulty

Thanks.

Is this referring to the passenger airbag in the dash? I've recently updated the stereo speakers, including the ones in the dash, so perhaps i knocked something when removing and replacing the right dash speaker. Possible?

Ah. Then i suspect it is all related as i've been digging around in the center console a lot. Moved the ac controls down in place of the lower shelf, added cup holders above the head unit, changed the head unit to a cdr-220, ran several cables from the back of the head unit down through the firewall above the accelerator etc.

Where is the carped level control unit? Also if i remove the right dash speaker can i access the airbag connections through the speaker hole?

Thanks
