Banging sound at low speed on '09 Cayenne GTS

Recommended Posts

My new to me '09 GTS Cayenne with 15, 000 miles has a banging/knocking sound coming from the rear at speeds below 15 mph. It s very similar to the sound I had on my 997s when the welds on the sport exhaust broke. I almost sounds like a rock in a hub cap. Any ideas before I take it in? ...Thanks.

hi, did you solve your knocking-ticking problem? the solution would be to change the engine.

its a problem on the earlier (2003-2004) Cayennes and looks like more and more cases are coming (rumors of class action law suits against Porsches)...

the problem is the "piston slap", where one of the cylinders (due to defective engineering) gets scorched

very surprising to see this problem on GTS '09...

Check out a couple of simple things first. I would make sure you dont have a stone caught between the disk and backplate. Also check the drive shaft to make sure something hasnt come loose. is the noise present when driving only, is it still there if you coast in neutral, d0es it get louder with revs and is it apparently in time with engine or wheel rotation. Doesnt sound like an engine problem to me

He states the noise is coming from the rear of the vehicle.... engine is stored up in the front bit.

I've been told the active sway bars can make a banging noise when they kick in. Does the sound occur when you're going around turns?
