Help! I really need some advice.

I have a 2005 Boxster S....It started with the alarm going off for no reason, then the roof cover going up and down on its own, the windows opening halfway and then a flat battery, after charging the battery a warning light came up saying soemthing like 'roof not reached optimum position'. After reading various bit and pieces on the internet, I checked the passenger footwell and it was full of water, with the foam under the carpet soaked.

I have taken the seat out, removed the electrics under the seat to dry them out, dried out the carpet (was only wet at the back of the footwell not the front) and the foam, the two drains under the bonnet are clear but i cannot check the two under the roof cover as the roof doesnt work and after a recent down pour more water has got in to the car so i am assuming that is where it is getting in.

I need to solve the water getting in before I go about trying to fix/replace the electrics but dont know how to get the roof down to clear the drains (if that actually is the problem!), any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

:welcome:

Sounds like your alarm go wet and may be damaged.

You will likely need a shop with a PIWIS tester to see the alarm control can be fixed (based on fault codes).

If it can not be repaired it will be expensive.

Do a search here for clearing and cleaning the top drains - they are very likely the cause of your problems.

I'm guessing that one of your plastic ball cups (on the end of the front pushrods) popped off or broke apart, then the continuing operation of the top caused the newly dangling pushrod to dig into the foam drain tray, thereby ripping or tearing a hole in the foam drain tray, and that resulted (the next time it rained or you washed the car) in water getting into the cabin (at the floorboard, behind the driver's seat or both seats) thereby frying your central alarm control unit.

The wet alarm control unit will cause the exact symptoms that you have described (among others). If the tear/rip is not too bad, you can seal it up effectively with a black adhesive sealant. Permatex makes a really good one for that application.

To open the top and clamshell manually, follow the instructions under the heading "Your Top is Stuck in the Closed Position", here :

Thanks for the replies Maurice and Loren, much appreciated. Maurice, I've read through the instructions on how to open the top manually but don't trust myself enough to do so I am reluctantly having to take it the garage and hope they can provide a fix that doesnt end up costing the earth. Fingers crossed!
