2003 996 Cab need 3rd engine at 54,000 miles?

Here are the facts:

+ 2003 996 cab purchased in May 08', 23K milles and 2 yr CPO+ June 08' Intermediate Shaft Failure 24.8K; new engine under warranty

+ April 11' Valve Keeper Failure at 28K on new engine; Needs new engine; warranty expired less than 12 months;

Porsche is willing to pay 50% on new engine!

They should pay 100% why should I to pay anything? car only has

Who do I complain to? This is a reliability and engineering issue!

Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Sounds more like an assembly issue if it was a valve keeper.

But still, I would pursue that for 100% equally for quality of workmanship.

A small metal shim "failing" is probably very unlikely, however if it is not shimmed correctly, that is probably more likely (and more explainable as a quality of workmanship issue than parts failure).

You can write to PCA, but I'm not sure what success you might have.

Just a thought/opinion.

I'd be interested too, just put a replacement engine in my 2003 C4 Cab, bought it two yrs ago with 50k miles and piston damage at 58k miles. Warranty also trying to 'do a deal', in similar manner. Shop seen the same issue many times over, declared it to be a 996 engine design fault.

I hope everything gets sorted out for you! I'm looking into 996's and i'm getting a little worried....

I think 996 prices and their often youthful appearance is attracting a new group of potential buyers (me included). I believe that you are doing the right thing by reading these Porsche forums and getting an idea of what 996 ownership can be like. I may be "lucky" in an odd way in that 2 of the 4 996s that I considered buying have suffered serious (total) engine failures. I would prefer to get this sort of education pre-purchase versus after! m96 engines do fail and owner's of these cars really do pay $15,000-20,000 for repairs or replacement engines. Serious stuff... especially when you consider the resale value of a working 996.
