Lifters tic when starting

Well I got a 99 C2 and when I start it up the lifters carry on for about 1-2 secs, I am about to change my oil and have no idea whats in it. I seen a post on here about a year ago which I cant find where someone said to use a certain wieght of oil and I think i am Mobil 1 full sythethic 0w-40 or 5w-40.

I did read the whole DIY oil change thing which covers wieghts of oils but no one seems to talk about how to stop every lifter on the car ticking for 2 secs..... or is this normal?

It is normal for hydraulic lifters to tick for even a minute or two at start up - depending on how long the engine has been off and the oil has drained out of them.

As long as the ticking stops there is likely nothing to worry about.

Mine were still ticking on bank 1 cylinder 2. 5W40 didn't help. Maybe 15w50 would? Anyways...

Sometimes it would tick for 5 minutes. Other times it went away within a few seconds. 5 minutes is not normal. A few seconds of ticking on cold startup is normal while they start spinning and filling up with oil.

I'm in the middle of various services to my engine. One of them being replacing the lifters.
