Where do I buy a new motor? Water in cylinder 5 and water in oil. 90,000 miles and a new Tiptronic.

You might want to consider rebuilding instead. A lot more people are doing this with the M96 engines and upgrading parts during the process (IMS bearing.)

Member Dharn55 rebuilt his motor after a cracked head. Member Logray just rebuilt his as well. Neither fellow had any previous experience rebuilding an engine. Do a search here and you will find a lot of info. I feel your pain. I lost a motor to intermix on a 2000 996 years back. There are more options now than then.

You other choice would be a "reman" engine from Porsche (about 25k installed.) or buy one from a wreck (aka Porsche Dismantlers.) Cost varies here. 3.6's are pretty easy to source.

I believe you could rebuild it your self for about $5k to $7k. Or you could buy one from people who rebuild them. Not sure of cost there.

I hope this helps and I'm sure others will chime in and give you some options..

Try Vertex in Miami. They also do overhauls. I believe they charge approx 9-10K for a 996 overhaul. 1-866-668-0660. Ask for Gilbert. They ship worldwide.

I just bought a rebuilt Tiptronic from them! They don't have a 3.6 in stock.

Does anyone know Instant- G? http://www.instant-g.com/index.html

If you want something from who is considered the upmost authority in the world for the M96/7 engine, buy an engine (or get yours fixed) by flat 6 innovations.

They can rebuild, but if yours is "too far gone" they also sell complete used and/or "new" engines including many upgraded parts.
