I have a 2002 996 C2 in my garage. I had it locked while I went on a trip for a week. The car has been hooked up to a trickle charger, and the internal LED is blinking. After I came back from a week long trip, I tried to unlock with my key remote, and even though the key LED lights up, the car does not unlock. I tried the spare remote which also lights up its LED but still the car doesn't respond. As another potential information for this symptom, I also noted that when I locked my car just before I went on my trip, it actually did not lock with my remote the first time. At that time, I did fire up the engine to see if there were any issues. Right after I turned off the engine, the remote worked and I had the car locked then. Now, it doesn't respond to my attempts to try to use the remote for unlocking it, with two separate remote keys.

1. Can I use the key to open the door, and if I do that, would the alarm go off? If the alarm does not get disabled by using the key physically, would starting up the engine help to disarm the alarm?

2. Would one say that there is an issue with the system since I had noticed that it did not lock with the remote last time once?

Any other insights and suggestions for potential remedies would be greatly appreciated.
