Question about immobilizer

I have a 1999 996 carbriolet. The car was working fine. Last night the car alarm went off for no reason. I went outside and turned the alarm off without any problems using my remote control on the key fob. The next day, the car started fine and then it stalled within about 5-10 seconds. It seemed like when I pressed on the gas peddle, the engine did not rev and the tach did not move. I tried started the car a few more times and it turned over, only to stall immediately, again seeming like the car would not rev. I remembered reading something about the immoblizer and locked and unlocked the car a few times with the key. The car then started and seems to be functioning ok without any warning lights, but it seems to be idling a little rough. I have not driven the car yet. Any thoughts about what happened? Any suggestions?

Adding to my question, could it be a bad DME relay?

It would be best to put Durametric, a PST2, or PIWIS on the car and see what faults you have.

Sounds like the immobilizer system. Runs rough due to numerous restarts maybe? Go for a ride, warm it up, ... "tach it up, wind it up, blow it out ...gto.". Good luck
