Bose Radio :(

Recommended Posts

Just took delivery of my 987 S. I will pictures up soon. Basalt Black Metallic with sand biege sport seats.

Anyone have the same issues as me......the reception of the radio is horrible. Moreover, the "treble" seems to fade in and out, perhaps due to the reception problems. I am not sure.

My last 997 als could never tune to 87.7 where the local news station plays. It will only tune to 87.9. Any way around this????????

XM or Sirus radio will be getting my business if I can't get this figured out.

Something might be wrong your radio but then again that station might just be weak. I've found that reception on the 987 is about a million times better than the older cars (996/986). It might be worth dropping off at the dealership so they can test your reception with the PIWIS.

Can you tune to this station in other cars without a problem?

For sure...the stations I am tuning have always been clear in all my other cars....and they are locally based. The car was delayed being delivered because the radio initially did not work so they replaced it with another Boxster S that was in stock. I have to tell you, it's very frustrating......when it loses the reception (albiet very slightly), all the Treble/highs drop out. It's very noticable but I have been trying to develop a pattern so when I go to the dealer they dont think I am nuts.

What is PIWIS?

There is a setting in the "Sound" menu, think it's labeled "Surround" or something to that effect, and has three levels. If you turn it completely off, this should eliminate the effect of the treble fading in and out, at least that's what I've noticed.

The CDR-23 in my 2003 Boxster-S won't tune 87.7 either. Technically it's not part of the FM radio band, but the TV audio of channel 6. They must have someone really anal in the radio division - no 3rd party attachments, limited frequency range.

If you read your owners manual you'll read that acording to Porsche a good sports car is not the place to listen to music.

I don't care what you do with your original radio you will not get any better reception. Even replacing the antenna will do little to help.

Even you you install XM (I did with a top of the line Alpine) and still get poor reception. I do play CD's for good tunes, in flat land the XM is very good, but FM/AM is not much better than an old crystal radio.

go to www.crutchfield.com and check out the Alpine's. I've one thing left and that is to install a new antenna, windshield type.

Good luck :D
