PSE defaults to quiet

Recommended Posts

Good day,

I have an 02 C4S with sport exhaust option and 52000 miles.

When the car is started, the sport exhaust sounds open, but immediately changes to quiet.

The PSE switchlight doesn't turn on when pushed.

I did not have time to troubleshoot before I had to leave the house. I am leaning toward the solenoid going bad for the sport mode not working, but that would not explain the switchlight not turning on and off.

Both of these symptoms began at the same time.

I have been searching the forum for similar symptoms, but haven't found and threads addressing my specific issues..

Any one have any experience with this one?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

The switch operates a solenoid that either applies or removes vacuum from the valve/dampers on the mufflers (one each side).

With no vacuum (like when the engine starts) the valves are open and exahust noise is loud - once a vacuum is created it closes the valves.

The switch is used to change the solenoid position - so look for disconnected lines or perhaps a disconnected or bad solenoid.

Thanks Loren,

I'll report back as to what I find. Everything I read on the forum points to the default on the sport exhaust to be open (if the solenoid is not energized), and the solenoid activates the silencer by way of the dampers/valves. That is why I was a bit confused since it appears to be stuck in the silent position...

Once I sort that out, I plan on fixing that annoying 25-45 mph loss of exhaust note :-)

regards, mike

I have the PSE but never connected the speedometer wire for the override to quiet from 25-45. I am curious, does the light on the switch go on when the override goes into effect or just when you switch it to quiet mode?

Mysteriously fixed itself, everything is working perfectly. Should the symptom appear again, atleast I'll know where to start...

Now, gotta look at that 25-45 eahaust mod...

Just when the button is depressed should the light come on...
