996 water in cabin causing issues.

Recommended Posts

Recently I discovered my drains were blocked and the carpet was soaked. I fixed the rear drain and currently working on the front drains.

Having an odd issue.

1. Interior lights don't work.

2. Lock button on the dash not responsive.

3. Key fob not locking or unlocking the vehicle. ( result in two beeps)

4. Manually locking the vehicle with the keys result in two beeps and only the driver door locks.

I ran my duramatric and I get the following error message.

Fault code 46, 58, and 60.

I took the alarm unit 535 and saw green oxidation on the bottom of the board. I hear the relays clicking when the remotes are clicked or the dash door is depressed.

Couple of questions. How do I clean the front drains?

How many drains are there in the front?

If I need to replace the 535 unit what else do I need to get from a used 996. I see comments about DME, immobilizes pill, remote control.

Any help is really appreciated as I will need the vehicle in a couple of weeks for a wedding.

Cobracars.

Took the carpet out to dry out the cushion. post-45201-134436397774_thumb.jpgpost-45201-134436399923_thumb.jpgpost-45201-13443640176_thumb.jpg

If I am to use a used immobilizer do I need the matching DME/ECU and the keys?

My car is a tiptronic cabrio. Should the unit be from the year make model and options?

1999 996 cabrio tip.

The donor alarm box/immobilizer will need to be programmed to your DME using a PST2 or PIWIS tester.

You will need your cars IPAS codes (from a dealer) to do that. You will also need to program your keys to the new immobilizer and to do that you will need each keys unique 40 digit id code (and the IPAS codes again).

It is a bit of work but all should work provided nothing else got fried in the original incident.

Thanks Loren.

What if we're to get a DME the immobilizes and the keys off another 996. Will that work?

I see two drains in the front next to the batteries. Is there any others?

I have cleared the following drains:

Two in the rear by the rear speakers and the two by the batteries. Again this is a cabriolet.

Finally. What is the part number for the plug next to brake booster. I see a 2" hole where the six pack cd changer cables are comming out. See attached pictures. post-45201-134443528734_thumb.jpg

Thanks again

Well called the dealer and the total cost to fix the immobilizer is over $1500.00

$500 for a new module

$460 to reprogram the unit

$240 Two new key heads

Plus taxes.

This is an expensive fix. I will be checking the **** drains every summer.

This does not include my labour to remove the interior and dry out the car.
