986 Lock/Alarm Issues I replaced both locks

Recommended Posts

Help!

I'm having some serious issues with my locking system on my 97 Boxster... What I have done already:

I have replaced both the driver and passenger locks with new units.

I have checked all wiring to make sure that there were no shorts etc.

My current situation:

Initially, after replacing the drivers side lock mechanism when you locked the doors the doors would immediately unlock again. I then replaced the passenger side as well. The lock on the passenger side did not lock when I used the key on the drivers side or the lock button on the dashboard. I have now disconnected the passenger side lock and ran a wire to manually operate the passenger side lock. (very discreet and besides it is my daily driver and very seldom do I ever use that door anyways).

When I lock the car now, the flashers start blinking after about 10 minutes. Also, my key remote stopped working a long time ago but I really don't mind manually locking and unlocking the car.

At this point, I just want the blinking to stop. My next step is to disconnect drivers side as well to completely by pass the locking system. I am fed up and have spent way too much time on it. BTW the alarm horn is disconnected already.

Any toughs on how to stop the blinking lights? Why does it take 10 minutes for them to start blinking? I have read extensively on this so please don't point out the obvious as it was probably was already done.

Sorry about any grammar or spelling mistakes...

I don't have an answer for you other than to suggest this. If you have a Durametric cable or know someone that has one, use it to identify the fault codes in the locking system. There are probably a ton of them stored so do this. Bring up the codes and write them down. Next clear them. Then recycle the loxks and see what new codes appear.

Without the codes, it just guessing. I suspect you have a faulty sensor somewhere. My own car acted like it possessed until I replaced the passenger door lock unit. It would do crazy things like unlock and lock itself when I was driving down the street.

Did you check the plug and socket near the door hinges? Early Boxsters suffered from corroded pins and sockets.

thom4782 has good avice, but I think you would need to put everything back to standard before getting a diagnostic check done. A test with a PST2 or PIWIS might have better functionality than the Durametric on the alarm module. Check out the tools registry, as there is likely to be a RennTech member in your area who has one.

I have a 99 Boxster sitting on my driveway for the last week. We used the emergency release cable to unlock the front trunk; however the rear trunk, both doors and the gas cap lid remained locked and alarmed. The battery was low but has been recharged. Neither the key or remotes are of any help in unlocking and unalarming this car. I would appreciate any suggestions other than towing to the Porsche dealer. Thanks, George Pierce
