Clicking brake disc and pinging brake shields on reversing

I just had PCCB discs replaced on Turbo S. They were part no 991.351.407.00 and 991.351.408.00 and they have now been updated to 991.351.40x.002. They are for the fronts. The rear discs are now on part number 991.352.40x.003 but I had no noise from them.

The symptom was a clicking noise on braking. It tended to occur from moderate speed down to a near stop. The TSB is WM465155.

At the same time I had both front brake PCCB dirt shields replaced. The symptom was a metallic "ting" on reversing on full lock. New part no.s are 991.351.805.03 and 806.03. They are fitted from factory after Feb 2014. The TSB is WM461755.

Finally, the TFT screen was shutting down randomly. Now fixed with a reprogram of the instrument cluster with PIWISII v.13.2 or higher.

The TSB is WM 902525.

I am waiting on a built to my spec turbo S but have not been able to add the I139 sports exhaust trims on my order, so have ordered the parts. Computer says no, even though they were supposed to be available from 01 March.

Thanx RJN, As my car is about to be built it should have all the updates. The theme on my car is red and black so the stock black chrome tips will do for me. You will always be able to get the sport tips in the aftermarket but they will cost you dearly. What I really want are black LED headlight modules. They do not appear to have them yet but they will as the back lights are popular option. I will be stuck getting them in the aftermarket for huge bucks.

No, but I will. Did not think about it when I picked the car up. The mechanic mentioned that he "found a bulletin on it."  I have the clicking problem and Porsche is aware of it but apparently has not come up with a solution yet. They say the car is totally safe to drive. There is some tolerance issue with the spring loaded system that mounts the disc to the hub. I guess they plan to replace everyone's rotors once they figure it out. The only info I got was "the parts are not yet available" and "don't call us we'll call you."

It's a bit hidden in PIWIS. The search engine seems poor and doesn't find stuff. I got it from drilling down -  ie set the car type as 2014 Turbo S then, Information media, SY - Symptom-based repair instructions, Transmission/suspension/brakes.

 

RJN have your ordered your Turbo S yet??

Yes received my 2'nd turbo S. I would post it, but the PIWIS system watermarks my email address into the document - I guess to prevent such stuff. If you subscribe to PIWIS it's available for I think €2.

You have to love these guys. I'll just get a copy from my mechanic the next time I see him which obviously won't be too far off. I just want to keep a copy of the bulletin with the car's service documents....for the record. This is why Porsche uses new stuff like these composite brakes on limited edition cars initially. If things screw up you limit the damage and with new technology like this, things always screw up. There have already been multiple revisions. However these brakes are worth the battle. They are better in every way except cost. They are better looking, they don't rust, they are wonderfully clean and they stop like CRAZY. It is always funny to watch a newbie drive the car. They always over cook the brakes throwing themselves against the seat belt. I never warn them :-)
