P1341 Check Engine Code

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.  Brand new 911 owner here (2001 C2 - 180k, but motor was rebuild 30k ago).  Drove the car literally 2 miles after buying it until the CEL came on.  Got it read at Autozone tonight and got p1341 which I've found on here to be the camshaft adjustment bank 1, but I'm also seeing people say that it could be something rather simple (ie sensor, bad connection).

I'd like to start with the wiring harness bad connection option (cheap and easy), but I don't know 911 engines very well.  Can someone tell me which connector I'm looking for and where it's at?  Maybe a photo?  Is the sensor what the wire plugs into?

Am I looking for the camshaft timing advance solonoid?  Or the camshaft position sensor?  Or something else?  The car seems to run absolutely fine.  Idle's fine, powers up fine...

Any help is MUCH appreciated!  I'm reading some of these forums seeing $6K+ repairs and my mind is swimming a bit...  : /

Hello ksteak,

Don't mean to overly pessimistic about the upcoming costs, but these are not inexpensive little cars to maintain. The most important thing to maintain is that same excitement you felt when you bought it and first drove it. Once you start to understand the car a little better and put a little work into it, the rewards are definitely great. Make a list, pick your battles and take the time necessary to fix it right. From what I've seen and experienced, going OE is always best. And, if you are doing the work yourself, you will need to invest in a Durametric. If you don't DIY, expect labor costs of $150 - $200/hour, depending on where you live. One more thought, stay away from Porsche dealers (except for parts), if you can. Unless of course, you have a ton of money!

Sorry I can't help you with p1341...research is your friend and the people on RennTech are awesome! The search engine on RennTech is also excellent and there is a ton of stuff out there (videos, photos, etc.).

Best of luck to you and welcome to Porsche Ville!

Julie

There are both a sensor and a solenoid on each cam cover that measure and activate the VarioCam unit.  As this code could entail either, the best way of diagnosing the problem is to measure the cam deviation and angle values on Bank 1 using a Porsche specific diagnostic tool like the Durametric system, a PST II, or PIWIS.  With that tool you can not only see the cam values, but you can also use the software to activate the VarioCam system while the car idles so that you can watch what happens in real time.  Based upon that data you can determine if it is the sensor (no values or erratic values), or the solenoid (no cam angle change with active).

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm a new member and new to 911's. Bought my first the end of January. 2002 C4S with 70,000 miles. I love it but..... it has been nickel and dimeing me since I bought it. Oh well. a few cosmetic items addressed as well as it seems like all the sensors are going bad at the same time. Anyway, good info on the engine codes. I just paid my mechanic $500 to reattach a vacuum line that had come loose. The dealership wanted $780 and said the line had gone bad, Not true , just came loose from the nipple, line was fine. the same engine code was still present  P1341. I am going to try to get my extended warranty to cover this but not holding my breath.
