997 TT engine swap into 996 TT possible?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

is a 997 TT engine swap into 996 TT possible? I need to replace my 996TT X50 engine and thinking of putting a 997TT engine in my car. Does somebody has done this swap before? What modifications do I need to do?

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

What happened to the 996TT's engine?  Is it beyond repair?

I don't have any direct experience with a 997TT swap but in theory the engine is very similar (they are both Mezgers).  However, the similarities may end there.  I think you're going to run into trouble getting everything to fit right just like it did with the 996TT's lump because a number of the components on the 997TT are different.  Also not sure the ECU is going to like it.  Again, don't have direct experience with the swap but I'm pretty sure they aren't directly interchangeable and will require some problem solving so it's probably better not to attempt it unless you're in it for the long haul, come rain or sunshine, and are willing to throw some money at it.
