Temperature Gauge Reading - Is this normal ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am a new bee with 2002 Boxster base. I noticed the temperature shows ~200 is this normal for Boxster ?. Usually I find the temperature gauge show the mid value in cars. So I was wondering if my car is getting heated up. What do you think is a normal value ? Took a picture in bright light so the picture didn't come out well. but you can see that the gauge is above 180

That being said, and yes, every year clean out that area, mine typically runs in that area on the gauge. Still on my original pump and coolant at 63k, and a 2001. (per Pedro's garage not to mess with the pump.)

Sorry, but from extensive experience, "not messing" is bad advice.  These pumps age and the composite impellers become brittle and break up, clogging small coolant passages and become nearly impossible to remove.

I certainly bow to your knowledge of these cars, but after talking with Pedro, I went this way.

But you're absolutely correct. It would be better to do  as you say. I have an OEM pump ready to go. Just being lazy.
