Stereo Door Speakers

Recommended Posts

Doing some small fixes on 99 boxster base after finally correcting a CEL issue. My door speakers don't work (yes w fader full to rear) I tested the door speakers on their own and they work so not the speaks. I then used jumpers between output plug and head unit to troubleshoot head. The dash worked as they should door didnt  so I jumped dash output from head to door speakers and dash speakers were sounding ..... now on the pinout I'm assuming front means dash and rear is door OR I'm totally incorrect and the fronts are in series and door and dash are considered front and rear speakers are only included in some sort of upgrade cause I don't have speakers in the storage bin behind the seats. There is a poweramp in the frunck. thanks v....OK They do work as faint sudo-subs....awful. So I assume the rear fader is for an additional set of speakers.

Your door speakers are NOT rear speakers.  They are woofers, and your auxiliary amp contains a crossover so they receive only bass frequencies.  For rear speakers, you install the rear shelf system and connect those speakers to the actual rear speaker outputs that already exist on your radio.  Better yet, obtain a 6X40 auxiliary amp from a 996/911 Cabrio, and wire the rear speakers to that.  When you do either, you will then have expected fader operation.

I wound up figuring that out by putting my ear up to the doors. I'm not sure if I have 2 extra channels on that amp. I tried to jump the rear outs from the amp(by looking on the schematic) to the dash speakers reading from the pin out but didn't get anything. V

You don't.

Two solutions ...

1.  Radio has speaker out connectors as well as amp out connectors.  You can use  the direct to speaker outputs for your rear speakers.

2.  Find a 6X40 amp from a 996/911 ... it will have working rear speaker outputs, and FYI your radio to amp wiring already has the rear outputs in the harness and connector.  Note:  there are 2 versions of the 911 amp ... coupe and cabrio.  Cabrio is better for Boxster.

Thanks for the info....so the M490 amp seems like the one. Probably be my next winter project.  Not quite following the brown plug business. So an extra harness(brown plug) is made up to go from the head unit to the amp?? Are these the pre outs that go to the amp for the rear speakers? Or.....maybe not....I'm using this amp for an upgrade to add rear speakers where I have none presently. So in my case I think I just modify the clip to plug into the 6 way amp then add the 4 rear speaker wires to the clip that go to the rear speakers. Correct? V Thanks V

So the M490 6 X 40 replaces the M490 4 x 40.....all that needs to be done is remove the keyed molds on the plug and run wires to speakers. Correct?? Thanks V

Yes.

The "brown plug" is used for the direct to speaker option.  Not needed if going through the aux amp.

OK Thats what I thought. Just ordered an M490 on ebay. Can anyone confirm the part # 999 652 568 22 for the pins I need to snap into the plug for the rear speakers. Thanks V
