Front Suspension

Recommended Posts

Hi All, Replaced front shocks, strut mounts, strut bearings, wheel bearings, control arms(wishbone). Now...I'm getting a creaking sound when I turn the wheel. I finished on Saturday and drove the car all weekend and just noticed it this morning.(Mon) Any thoughts? V 99 Boxster Base

A bit overdue with this reply. but was the suspension in its natural loaded position when you torqued up the control arm and tuning fork bolts?  These clamp on to the bush in the rubber bushing and will be over twisting the rubber if they were tightened when the suspension was on full droop.  As a tip, I lift under the hub with a jack until it just takes the weight off the axle stand/ lift arm so the arms are in the same position as if sitting on all 4 wheels, also known as Z0.

Yes, I simulated load with a jack under the wheel carrier ...i went up and stopped when the car began to lift off the stand then backed off on the jack a bit to lower the car. I believe the lower control arm was sort of parallel to the ground. The creak went away for a while then it rained and started coming back. It creaks when I turn the wheel...sounds like its from right shock tower. Thought its the shock mount and was gona back it off a 1/4 turn. V

Disc you install coil overs? If so, it may be where the coil meets the top or bottom mount. I had a similar issue when I installed my godspeed maxx setup. OEM strut mounts are buzzfeed to prevent slipping of the spring, something that my coilovers did not have. I increased the preload on that coilover by 2 mm and then greased the contract points with silicone spray, hasn't come back since.
