Fuel vent howling

I have a 2003 996 C4S that makes the "blowing across a coke bottle" sound from the vent hole behind the gas cap door. It happens at idle after the car is warmed up. There are no other symptoms. Doing some research, the vent hole is connected to the EVAP system.

 

I hooked up durametric- no faults found.

 

When the fuel filler flap is activated, the howling noise/ vacuum from the vent hole goes away. 

 

Found this Pelican article, but not sure if the is the problem.

If you are having trouble filling up your car with gas, your check engine light keeps coming on, or you hear a howling sound you may have a faulty fuel line vent valve.

There are at least two and perhaps 3 TSBs for issues will the fuel filling lines and/or vents on the C4 and C4S.

TSBs should be performed for free by your dealer -plus they should have a record (that follows your VIN) for all TSBs that have been completed for your car.

Contact your dealer and if they have not performed them that is the place to start.
