Code P1341 600 miles from home. Do what?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the Colorado mountains 600 miles from my home in Scottsdale and my check engine light goes on (2001 C2 cab). Code reader says "P1341 - Camshaft adjustment Bank 2".

I've got no symptoms, a smooth and consistent idle, smooth acceleration, and quick start-up. What would you do? Drive home as is? Get it flat-bedded?

So far. I've decided to get a local IPA.

P1341 indicates that the cam angle on bank 1 is either out of range or that it cannot read it (plausibility).  You either have a cam sensor on the way out, the actuator solenoid is problematic (Stuck due to debris in the oiling system), or the Vario Cam unit itself is bad.  I would test the sensor and consider replacing the solenoid if the sensor is good.

JFP, good info but there are no Porsche parts, like a sensor or solenoid, available and nobody who knows how to test the sensor. Does anyone here know if damage will be done by driving with the CEL P1341 ? Or, is it likely to quit and leave me on the side of the road?

If it were mine, I would flatbed it if I were in your situation.  Without more detailed diagnostics, there is no way to know what is likely to happen or determine probabilities of failures.  In the end, it is your car and your money, and your decision.
