Digital display-99 Boxster

Digital display background light stays on after key removal.

I replaced the electrical portion of the ignition switch with some success a month ago but the problem has resurfaced on an intermittent basis. In addition after the display timed out and shut down I opened and closed the driver side door only to have the Digital display background light stay on. Last night it functioned properly but stayed on today. Could it be a relay or timer that hangs up? or just another bad switch?

when key is removed, digital display stays light on. When doors get closed, then it is turned off.

If the display stays lit when I close the door do I have a bad door switch???

Sometimes when I use the remote to set the alarm the display turns off.

Hi Valcax,

Recently replaced the entire mechanical and electrical components with the upgraded ignition switch but the digital display will some times stay on all night long. The display will sometimes flash from just the background light to acual values. Pulling out the 15 amp instrument fuse B1 and reinserting it seems to help.

There must be a timer relay or switch that is faulty???

Any suggestions?

If you lock the car, the display goes off immediately. Otherwise there is a few minute timeout on it.

Bingo.. The dash lights stay on for quite a while. If you lock the door, they go off. If you leave the car it should time out in 10 minutes or so, mine takes quite a while.

Why are you so concerned about the display on the dash staying on for a while? It's LED it could stay on for a week and not kill the battery.
