paging loren - help with wiring diagrams please.

Recommended Posts

hey loren (and others) i was wondering if you can help with some wiring issues.

i am trying to wire up my AiM XG log data logger to tap off the ECU's data stream through the CAN high and CAN low wires. dave at precision auto research has been great at helping me with the wiring but we both wanted to be sure. the AiM system needs to attach to the ECU's CAN + (high) and CAN - (low) wires. i have found thru alldatadiy.com that i can tap ECU pinouts 85 (CAN -) and 86 (CAN +). according to dave's porsche techs, that these are the correct pinouts but the diagram does not show the color. apparently BL is CAN + and GR is CAN - (BL=blue and GR=grey correct?). it also appears that i can tap into these wires from the green plug, PLUG A, from behind the instrument panel. alldatadiy doesn't have a wiring diagram of the green plug so i was hoping you would have it.

thx

There is no CAN connection on the instrument cluster. On a MY99 car the only place the two CAN wires go is to a Tiptronic (if so optioned - M249). Looks like you will need to take your connection from the DME. Blue and Grey is correct.

thx loren.

hmmm so if i have a 6 speed there really is no need for the CAN bus then. i imagine on the e-gas/PSM cars then there would be a greater need for it.
