30k service

A 30K service is an oil/filter, cabin filter (the 15K service) change plus replacement of the air filter. If you do it yourself, the oil and filters will set you back $120 and an hour of your time. If you have a dealer do it, it will set $800-$1200.

Look in the DIY sections for instructions on how to do it.

Lastly change your oil (i.e. the 15K service) every 15K miles or 1 year which ever comes first.

So, no do not skip the 30K maintenance interval.

If your car is still under warranty - I certainly would not skip any scheduled service -- whether you do it yourself or have a shop do it. Don't give a dealer an excuse to refuse a warranty claim.

As Orient Express said changing your own oil is very easy (20 to 30 minutes) and costs less than $50 in parts (oil and filter). Air filter takes about 5 minutes and the pollen filter 2 minutes. All are documented here on the site.

Where are you located? If you are in Northern California you should come to one of our work on cars days - we'll even help you learn to do it yourself.

thanks. what if i do just the oil change at 30k and not the actual 30k service? is that not recommended? the difference in cost seems to be ~ 200ish vs 700.

All the 30K service consists of is an oil change, pollen filter change, and the air filter change.
