Climate Control Question

Recommended Posts

Looking for some clarification...

I recently swapped out a damaged climate control unit with a new one (part no. 99665310109). Everything looks good (on screen), but nothing works. No A/C, heat, ventilation, fan speeds, etc.

When the engine is powered on, both sides of the climate control display blink for approx. 20 seconds, then stops. I also noticed that the fan speed bars will increase (up to four bars)...then repeat. Nothing is set to automatic. Finally, I am unable to change the temperature from celsius to farenheight (by holding the recycle air button then pressing the (+) temp button).

So, all of this leads me to believe that at least one of the following statements are true:

1) I have a bad climate control unit

2) This part is not compatible with my model year

3) A PS2 is required to setup (or re-setup) the functions governing the climate control

I'm leaning towards #3.

Anyone with any experience in this area?

Thanks in advance.

I think your right about the coding....just dug up something in the workshop manuals:

1. Connect and switch on the Porsche System Tester 2.

2. Select air conditioning and menu item "System test".

The following conditions must be observed for the system test:

-Vehicle speed < 10 km/h

-Engine start detected and 10 seconds elapsed since engine start

-Terminal 15 supply voltage OK

-5 Volt supply voltage OK

-Engine temperature < 110 DC

-Outside temperature> 3 DC

The following tests are performed:

-Display of all segments in the control module

-The drive motors are traversed across the entire range once

-The measured positioning travel is subjected to a plausibility test and stored as a fault if necessary.

-Two different voltage values are set on the fresh-air fan and tested

-The A/C circuit is tested via the DME All fault paths are tested, and any faults are stored

-Basic adaptation has been completed after the system test. The display must no longer flash.

I guess this explains the LCD flashing. I'll borrow a PST2 & give it a try.
