Cracked window covered under warranty?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2002 S with 13,000 miles and I noticed a crack starting to form in the rear plastic window. Is this covered under my manufacturer's warranty? The warranty doesn't expire until August.

I would ask the dealer to cover it.

My 02S top failed at 52,000 miles so I still have a cracked rear window.

Mostly, these crack from the cold, so if you live in Arizona or So Cal you have a better case.

If you live in cold country, you might wait until June to inform the dealer that it broke :D

I will give Porsche props for this one. They continued to review my top replacement and offered $500 to help with the cost of a new top. I will gladly take it and purchase a top with the glass window instead of dealing with a plastic window that would've come with the top if Porsche covered it under warranty.

Yes, I know it is cheaper for Porsche but at the same time I would've ended up buying a top with a glass window anyway (because I hate having a mile long list of dos and donts for the plastic window) so I find this to be a win-win situation.

Sorry for the identical post from the other website, but I wanted to make sure I communicated my satisfcation with the way Porsche handled this issue.

My understanding is that the glass window tops will not work with the "02 top frame...if there is one out there that does, I'd sure like to find out about it.

both GAHH and BAS make one, it's not a Porsche part, but an aftermarket one with a window the size of the 2003+ here's a link to a thread about them :)

Thanks...last time I checked the glass window tops did not fit the '02 and earlier frames, but upon checking the GAHH site, I see that issue has been fixed. Thanks much. Was afraid I was doomed to plastic unless I wanted to move up to a newer Boxster S :jump:
