  1. My Boxster is a street car that's never been over 95 mph. When I want to drive fast, I take my 911 to the race track. The lip is very subtle when in the lowered position (I had just installed the sport muffler and took the pic, forgetting to lower the spoiler). Just enough to make it look slightly different and not jump out at you. I'll post some more pics when I have a chance. BTW, you can buy them on eBay, pre-painted. Takes about twenty minutes to install, at the most.
  2. If you really want induction howl, install the EVO High Flow kit. At just $395, it's the best money you can spend. Whether or not it increases power; I doubt it. My '02 S just screams when you get on it though.
  3. I run 36/44 with 18's. This was recommended on the PCA technical website.
  4. The muffler is not difficult to replace, if you have some simple mechanical ability. I replaced mine with a sport muffler (not the electronic kind) and only took a few hours, including cleaning. There are many good write-ups on the board on how to do it. Find a friend with tools and have a go.
  5. I added this wing because I like the look of it on the Cayman. I'm not about bling; just think it updates the look on the car. BTW, I get alot of compliments and our Chicago National Concours judge/champion liked it so much, he ordered one.
  6. Highly recommended...they matched my 1973 Emerald Green 911 to a very high degree.
  7. Interestingly, there is a post on the PCA Tech forum regarding Boxster tire pressures. It states Boxsters running 18" wheels may follow the recommended pressures for the 996, which would be 36/44. Any comments out there? I am going to adjust mine to see what difference it makes. http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.a...B-14C71E506D95}
  8. Shop labor rates are around $160 hr here in Chicago. I have an independent handle my needs for a more reasonable $85 hr. Is your car under warranty?
  9. Hi Eric, I highly recommend this exhaust to everyone. You are right, it is throaty when on the power, but not loud or intrusive. Cruising just gives a little deeper note. I've already sold my stock muffler on eBay to an '02 Boxster owner (2.7) that wanted double tips. Everyone is happy! As far as suspension, I had H&R sport springs installed in place of the stock springs. No shock changes were necessary as the H&Rs match up pretty well with the existing bits. This is strickly a street car, so I didn't want to go too agressive. The ride height is nice with good feel. Surprisingly, the sport springs almost feel progressive compared to the stock setup. Springs cost approx $350 and replacement/alignment was $650 by a local shop. Well worth the money.
  10. What tires are on the car presently? You definately do not want to mix tire brands/types.
  11. I'm intrigued by the aftermarket rear bumper diffuser kits out there. Has anyone installed these? I like the way they hide the bottom portion of the muffer. They look easy enough to install. Of course, the rear bumper cover needs to be removed but that's easy. Any comments would be appreciated.
  12. I wish to move my AC control to the top where the useless cupholders are. I have ordered the parts from a supplier in Georgia, only to be waiting forever. I found one thru a local source. Anyone know of where I might purchase a second adapter #996 573 501 00? Perhaps someone on the board has a spare they could sell me?
  13. No problem with street driving. However, be very careful on entrance/exit inclines. I was pulling out of the gas station the other day and scraped the bottom of the nose because the incline was a bit more than it could take.
  14. I recently lowered my car utilizing H&R sport springs. Dropped the car around 1.4". Had a complete alignment done afterward as all the angles changed. Springs cost $300 and installation/alignment was $650. Money well spent.
  15. I had a Fabspeed muffler on order for two and a half months. Finally cancelled the order because they could not tell me when delivery would take place. The Fabspeed unit is actually manufactured by Dansk, unlike all their other products, so they have no control over production timing. If you can find one, great. Otherwise, be prepared to wait many months.
  16. I think you'll find the GLH is quite loud; if that's OK with you. I was looking for something that would give me a bit more growl under hard acceleration, but not too loud. The best is to go to a Porsche Club event and check out the Boxsters and their various mods. Find one that sounds good and talk to the owner. Sound is all in the eyes of the beholder.
  17. Hey, thanks Alex...you were a one stop shop! Just the parts I needed and hadn't got around to. I'll see if my son can capture some sound...I don't think my laptop has the capability( strictly business). I have a bunch friends racing this weekend while I'm watching. The 911 needs a couple things attended to which I've not had time for. I'm looking forward to a little cruise north of the border and hitting some back roads. Thnaks again, Jerry
  18. Weeks back Alex911s was kind enough to sell me his unused H&R Sport Springs, as well as his german modified Sport muffler. My car is an'02 S with around 9200 miles. Well, the springs are on and the car looks and handles great (not as good as my track 911, but good). Today, I finally had time to put on the sport muffler. As you'll see from the next couple of pics, I took the remove everything from the back route. It's very simple and the job was done quickly, even with all my cleaning, etc. The clamps were easy to break (with a little WD40). The sport muffler is a factory muffler with extra "sound tubes" placed factory style, but above the valance for a discrete look. Sound is very good; deeper tone at idle, but "lets go" as you get into the revs (I also have the EVO High Flow kit). Around town, normal cruising doesn't sound much different, just more pronounced. I'm taking it to Road America this weekend for a little 2 hour trip. I'll most likely experience all the tones she has to offer. Here are a couple after pics since I ran out of picture space. The car is lowered around 1.4" with a touch more agressive alignment. Wheels are 18x8 and 18X10s.
  19. I recently purchased this converted factory muffler from Alex911s on this board. A german firm installs bypass tubes to give more aggressive sound. These can be purchased off eBay. My car is also an '02 S with 9200 miles. I'm anxious to install the muffler to hear the sound in person. I like the fact that this is simply a modded factory piece. Also bought Alex's H & R springs, not to change the subject. Lowered the car about 1.4"; looks and feels much better with the lower center of gravity and more agressive camber after alignment. As soon as I can find time to install the muffler, I will report back. I recently purchased this converted factory muffler from Alex911s on this board. 20. Did the mod today. Burnt out the plastic with the solder iron; that is tough stuff, not very pliable. You'd think plastic would snap if twisted? Take your time, as it takes patience to melt and then grab quickly with needle nose pliers. The stuff hardens almost immediately after being heated! I was more than happy to rid my '02 S of this last remnant of amber. The silver bulbs look and work great. BTW, I used mulitple layers of aluminium foil and had very little damage around the light socket. I touched it up with a file and it is not visible. The socket plug has enough tolerence in it that it would not affect replacement anyway.
  21. I have the EVO "high flow" intake on my '02 S. I'm sure hp increase is negligible, but the sound is worth the expense. On full acceleration, the intake just howls! Can't wait to put on the sport muffler next.
  22. Received the springs today...I can't wait to get them installed. Muffler should be here tomorrow; just in time for the weekend (though I'm off to Milwaukee for the Champ Car race!) Thanks again Alex....
  23. My "S" soon to have Alex's sport springs and muffler. It is an '02 now sporting 9200 miles; original (except for the EVO High Flow Intake...A MUST). T Thanks again Alex for the great communication!
  24. Sounds like a good way to lighten your wallet, as many aftermarket parts makers are good at.
