  1. I´ve a 997.2 bought in August 09 and made 7500km since then. Zero oil consuption ever since day one. J.Seven
  2. I´ve run my 5 speed Boxster for 40.000Km with a Turbo system made by TTP, and when the engine blew, i dropped a 3.4L engine which made 22.000Km till I sold the car. When the 3.4L was installed, tuner told me the clucth was in good condition, and when I told them the clucth had 40.000Km with the Turbo system they almost didn´t believed me. When I sold the car the clucth still felt strong, but i had a remanufacter gearbox put it in. Don´t know if gearbox failure was caused by all power mods I´ve done, but there was two more Boxsters at the club, needing a new gearbox at same time and they were both stock. So I believe Boxster can handle the 3.4L power, but you got to know how to proper use it. My 3.4L system was 100% problem free during the time I use it, no eletronic or any other bugs what so ever. 3. I´m sad to say this, but from my own experience and many others 996 Porsche owners I know, the 996 and Boxster engines are far from reliable. That´s why they didn´t use it on the GT3 and Turbo top of the line models. It´s a wonderful car to drive, mitical design and deliver great road feeling, but those M96 engines are their main malady :( The new 997 it´s much better in this regard, but there´s already some engine failures on these model too. See the last twoo links. Broken 996 engine this month Broken gearbox this month Another broken gearbox this month More broken gearbox broken G.box Broken engine Interesting read I had my engine blown too  A renntech member had his engine blown too And many more broken engines Broken engine More and more 996 Engine failure Even more Ok Here´s some more engine failure links, their just too many to post. http://www.911uk.com/forum/display_topic_t...mp;ThreadPage=4 http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.a...=200454&h=0 http://www.theautobahn.com/forum/showthrea...4928#post184928 http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1980762&page=1 http://www.devwebsphere.com/porsche/2005/0...ifters_may.html 997 Engine failure 997 engine seized I am not saying Porsche is not reliable, every sport cars brand have their reliable issues, but Boxster and 996 series were prone to engine failures, and PAG never admited there was a problem. Everybody knows the M3 had some major engine issues too, but at least BMW admited. A friend of mine had two engine replacements on his M3 E46. But still they remain the better cars to drive, Porsche that is  J.Seven
  4. Comun 996 engine failure. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...ad.php?t=205310 http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=4501 http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...ad.php?t=196506 http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...ad.php?t=196800 http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/show...ad.php?t=204183 And many more thrue out the net.
  5. I´ve a PSE on my car. The PSE was not installed from factory, so I only have a ugly aftermarket button on the dash that works manely has an ON/OFF button, because it turns ON and off the PSE at any speed or at idle, it doesn´t cut the PSE at low speeds when it´s in the ON position. Went to my dealer and bought the original button to put on the dash, but they told me they could not install the original button because they didn´t know what kind on connections the aftermarket button had. I said that I only wanted the original button to do the same ON/OFF function the aftermarket button was making, but they told me I would have to buy the original conections wires that costs 150Euros and only then the original button would work properly. Well I have some doubts, if they install the original warness with original button, will the PSE be cut at low speeds went switch ON like the standart PSE does? Is there any way to adapt the original button to the existing conections on the aftermarket button? I can post some pics of the aftermarket conections for all of you, if this help to solve this question. Thanks in advance. J.Seven
  6. Is it adviseble to drop a X74 suspension in a Cab. I´ve been at the trach with my Cab and found the suspension to be very soft in track driving conditions. Will the chassi sustain the amount of grip generated by a X74 suspension and a set of Michelin Cup tires? I´m sure this would be the perfect set up for track. Thanks in advance. J.Seven
  7. I´ve just bought a 996 and coming from 5 years Boxster ownership, I find the 996 steering to be heavier at idle than the Boxster, exactly the opposite  J.Seven
  8. Had a sond just like that on my RangeRover V8, it was an exhaust manifold leak. One hour labour and I was on the road again with no clicking sound, hope you can have the same luck. J.Seven
  9. I´ve always balance my tires, with the tires mounted on the car and the result is suberb, no vibration from the steering at all. Each time I balance the tires out of the car with the balacing machine, the result was´t great, there was always some vibration left. But this was on my Boxster, that didn´t had the LSD( Limited slip diferencial). My 996 has LSD, and I was adviced not to make the balacing with the tires on the car on the rear axle because I could damage the LSD. I believe they can be right but I want to be sure of this information, can you experts confirm me this? I´ve balance the 996 tires on normal machine, and like Boxster, the vibration is still there arghhhhhh Round here there´s no Hunter 9700 machine, so the on vehicule wheel balancing is the most accurate. Thanks for your help.
  10. When you say "open the side of the panel" are you refering to the plastic piece that surrounds the switchs like the one on this pic
  11. I´ve the sport exhaust with the on/off inside dash switch. The switch is very ugly and I wiould like to buy from Carnewal.com their original switch. How can I remove it from the dash without braking anything, is there any place where I can find intructions ? Here´s the switch from Carnewal
  12. German friend of mine just sent me couple of pics he took himself yesterday in Stuttgart on a German highway. From rear you can barely tell the difference for the 996. He told me that the door openers have a different shape, rear side mirrors are also a bit different, and front lights are not round like some pics we have seen, they are oval, overall look is a bit like 996, which confirms some rumors.
  13. Thanks to everybody for the comments. msindi, I´m from Portugal. J.Seven
  14. Here´s what really makes me smile all day long   My new car I sold my 3.4L powered Boxster which I loved and drive for the last 4 years, I hope this new toy can perform as good as my Boxster, I´m sure it will ;). So far the big difference I noticed was the cabin noise, this one is far more silent than the Boxster, as to other aspects like driving pleasure, handling among other things, I will post on another thread. PS - Found this board few days ago, and it´s amazing the amount of info it has. Congrats Loren you have made a great job, you´re the :king:
  15. What´s the correct tire pressure for a 996 Carrera 2 with 18" J.Seven
