  1. It just means that your MAF is beyond cleaning, i experienced the same exact symptoms as you when my MAF took a dive. Just buy a new one and fall in love with your boxster all over again.
  2. Yes. Unfortunately, not much you can do about it. The side-to-side pivot mechanism uses plastic for the pivot joints. It wears out. A friend and I are working on a solution to repair the older, worn-out shifters, as well as tighten the action on newer cars. Stay tuned. Neat! ok keep me posted please
  3. How much play is allowable in a stock shifter setup, Currently i have nearly a half inch of play (side to side) in my shifter. Is that too much play?
  4. Yes they did remove the door handles before painting them. You have to or else your rubber liner between the door handle and the door panel will be paint on it and that looks crappy. If you all would like to call the shop for estimates on a paint job, feel free to call them, Its called Rapid Transit in San Pedro California. 310-832-6440... tell them you talked to Jr with the boxster. Im sure they will give you all a good deal.
  5. On another forum we have a thread like this, People who own a PST2 & Durametric tool and wouldn't mind helping fellow p-car owners in your area that are in need of PST2 & Durametric tool diagnosis, Please Post here the city of your location and which device you have and weather not you'd be willing to plug your tools into a local fellow p-car owners porsche. Currently Im looking for someone in the Los Angeles or Orange County area with either device to diagnose and clear the code for my airbag light.' Hopefully we have many people here willing to help others in there neck of the woods.
  6. Oh wow chris your winning me with your mileage, Yes i had the entire exterior of the car painted. with 108k miles it needed it, i had 1 spiderweb crack on the rear bumper, 4 gouges from a tow hitch pitting my front bumper and dings everywhere and swirl marks everywhere also.
  7. It hasnt been waxed by the paintshop yet so we will see how it looks after that, It might brighten up 1 tone or 2. Hey what level tint do you have? how do you like it?
  8. Cost me $1800, father is a supervisor at the shop so all i paid for was supplies and hourly rate for the bodywork and painters time. Was told the job normally costs about $4000. Yeah the painted interior does make the worn seats stand out, I havent conditioned them in some time now but were weathered when i bought the car, Yes those are 550 STYLE tail lights, i painted my original taillamps red, Havent have spent money on clear headlamps cause im not at that stage yet, i'd rather paint the car first then worry about upgrading my headlamps, Then maybe buying new seat covers. Looks pretty good for a Boxster with 108,000 miles huh
  9. Ok, finally had time to snap some photos of my 1997 Boxster, It recently under went some bodywork to repair the spiderweb cracks in the rear bumper and dings-galore around then entire car and painted bumperettes and received LOTS of clear coat... Still need to go back to the paint shop in a week for it to be color-sand then buffed once more cause the trunk has some funny clearcoat paint stuff going on. I also had the interior peices painted Body color for a subtle upgrade from the soft-touch stock interior texture. Hope you likes!
  10. Usually because whatever temp it is set at, the heater core may not be warm enough to blow out the air to the vents or the A/C may not be cold enough to blow out the vents yet. Its a good thing, you wouldnt want your AC to blow cold air on you before the heater core is warmed up on a freezing cold morning, would yah!? Remember, heater uses heated engine coolant to heat the air its blowing at the passengers.
  11. I once could have sworn that the noise i heard from the passenger side of the dash was something under the dash.... turns out it was the passenger visor... the plastic lid for the mirror was flapping around. Then i heard a similar noise behind me while driving, thought it was the broken push rod or chattery windscreen, it turns out it was the drivers side sun visor, again, the plastic lid cover for the mirror.
  12. Its actually a braided steal cable that is sewn into the side edges of the top to firmly seal into the top of the plastic window trim... When the top is halfway opened, you can see the screw mounted location of the torqs screw holding the thin braided steal cable on near the bottom edge of the plastic window trim. I think what causes this is the top canvas being very tight and pulls one cable out of alignment before settling into the channel, you should try closing it properly and having an upholstery shop steam the top of your canvas to help stretch it out and leave the top closed for a week before testing if it worked or not. OR first you can try appling ArmorAll to the area in the picture below to allow the cable to more easily slide into place.
  13. Hey, They are holding up great, had an alignment done and my measurement was off lol so goes to show you no matter how much you check, double check and triple check... nothing beats a good old alignment tech! Yeah delubozparts hasnt put them on the market yet, im also waiting for his notification on when the front control arms would be ready for sail... same boat at you at this point.
  14. Congrats, welcome to the club! Right now Im at 108,000 miles.
  15. Have you tried puttin the top in service mode and checking the greyish blackish foam for cat pee? im sure some leaked in there. In service mode you can also spray your cleaner on the underside of the pee spot.
  16. I think the traditional way to adjust them into stock spec without having to spin the sprocket inside the drum assembly is to drive in reverse at about 8mph and pull the e-brake gently... it's suppose to self adjust like that, if you want it tighter, your going to have to remove both rear wheels, look behind the brake disc and there should be a slot opening for a flat head screwdriver, and inside is a sprocket with teeth, you rotate them one direction and the ebrake pads should press more firmly against the drum surface. Could take alot of time to get it right where you want it. Theres probably an adjustment in the cable under the center console between the seats but I've yet to look there. Goto Midas and ask them to adjust it.
  17. I got them from www.autolumination.com. I had to pull out the old lights in order to use the post that screws into the cluster. The lights are soldered into the socket so you have to break the glass of the bulb and pull out the rest with tweezers. Be very careful of the glass in the eye stuff. You can purchase the whole thing from a website but I can't remember where. I will do a little research and respond back. The three lights that light up the Miles, Speed, and the Clock are the only ones working at the moment. Still working on the rest of the cluster issue. Good luck Did you soder the new bulbs into the sockets? if not, 100% sure thats the issue.
  18. When your holding the key in the "Start" position, is the engine cranking but not firing up or is it doing NOTHING at all? If its cranking but not starting, then likely you have a bad MAF, when my MAF went bad i had the same symptoms you are having. It would start and i would drive, then turn it off and it wouldnt start for 15 minutes after trying to restart the car.
  19. Hey i was in Ft. Lauderdale FL over the weekend, was your boxster the one parked in the street in south beach miami? i seen it there with the top down near some resurant. About your cluster, Take it back out and makesure you have every wire inplace correctly and the connectors are not in the wrong slots. Makesure they are clipped in fully and securely, Possible that you clipped the lever down on one of them too soon before it was accepted into the back of the gauge cluster.
  20. Ill have to give that a try if the engine and tranny mounts look good.
  21. Does anyone else here have this issue. Say your driving and you hit afew little bumps or cracks in the road and before you know it, one of your center console AC vents is pointed down? anyway to make them more firm into place? When i turn the Heater on, the vents get nice and tight, but no heat, or worse, AC turned on, the passenger side gets really loose.
  22. Is the brightness of the digital readout of the MPH dim just like the OBC or is the MPH brighter than the OBC display? if not, the brightness adjustment is the knob between/above the RPM gauge and MPH gauge, twist and hold it to the left to brighten the display. If that doesnt work, you likely have a burnt out light bulb in the gauge assembly. to replace that, look for directions on how to remove the cluster from the dash.
  23. Nope. When i bought the car in August, the dealer told me the clutch replacement was done prior to me buying the car. I have done acouple burnouts and slipped the clutch 1 time in 1st gear and i smelled the burnt clutch smell at a stop light but thats about it for abuse
  24. I need some insite as to what the issue is that im having with my boxster, Its a 97 boxster 5 speed with 108k miles.... :) Issue im having is that i hear a grind noise ONLY when im changing from 1st into 2nd gear while making a left or right turn. I make the gear change in the 3500 - 4000rpm range and as the shifter is entering 2nd gear, i hear the grind. Again, this ONLY grinds while going into 2nd gear while turning! In Addition: The only way the tranny wont grind while shifting into 2nd during a turn is if i wait for the RPM's to drop to idle before shifting into 2nd.
  25. Yes, Rear tires were new about month and a half ago, front tires just installed before alignment... 1/8th short of full tank.
