  1. FWIW, I've just measured the factory set ride height on my '04 GT3. There is a 5mm tolerance in the factory (whole world) spec on ride height. Rear ride height is at the bottom (low) of the 5 mm spec and my front height is at the top (high). Spec: Front: 115-120 Rear: 128-133 My height : Front: 118 & 120 Rear: 128 & 129
  2. I've had good luck with wheel balancing off the car, but, you should find a balancer that has equipment that will do a two plane dynamic balance AND that can be set to balance to units of a gram, not just the once.
  3. The closed box in the air filter housing can be thought of as a resonance chamber. It is analogous to a capacitor in an electical circuit (if that helps). As such, it changes the resonant characteristics of the intake tract between the air filter and the intake valves. Now comes the speculation as to why it is really there: It could be there to "quiet" a boomy, resonance sound from the intake tract at some particular frequency/engine speed to meet somebody's idea of how the motor should sound (?laws in Switzerland?).....or it could be there to smooth out an intake resonance that negatively affects airflow in the intake system... or? Anyway, I put a similar mod on my old '99 C4 and removed the entire resonant chamber and plugged the hole in top of the air filter box. The car sounded "better" in my opinion and I noticed no negative effects. I have no idea if it contibuted to better or worse performance.
  4. Ray....You can get only the tip part off the final pipe. I've done this to polish up the tips on a bench grinder/buffer. But, it's not easy. You can remove the single nut on the very bottom of the tip.....and then the bolt it threads onto.....and then wrestle 'em off. The newer they are, the easier.
  5. Check out the thread I started in September on this board entitled "GT3 Steering Precision". There is a noticeable on-off throttle effect. It appears that all GT3s have it and I am concluding that it is an artifact of the performance-serious suspension set up. The GT3 has a lot fewer rubber bushings in the suspension joints that can otherwise 'auto-correct' for on-off throttle effects. I don't think that the effect I describe is due to the LSD as it would induce the opposite effects if it were the cause.
  6. Ray....May I ask what effect you expect from JetHot/Ceramic coating your OE headers?
  7. Daniel....also see the thread in the GT3 board entitled "GT3 Steering Precision" that I started on 17 Sept. BTW, the LSD sounds you describe sound normal.
  8. I did a mod something like this on my '99 C4 some years ago. I used some of Evo's "quick flow" plumbing from the air box to the throttle body. I totally removed the resonator box from the inside of the air filter box.....and looked around the garage to find something to "plug the hole" in the top of the air filter box. I found a couple old black plastic blank plugs that once filled unused auxilliary instrument holes in a "add-on" instrument pod. The standard hole size for VDO, etc instruments is, I think, 2 1/8 inches......and the blank plug fit perfectly with some epoxy glue.
  9. My GT3, serial xx...xx2222 has the front caliper pad retaining bolt, like mds's, and the pin in the rear calipers......and the "964...." numbered crankcase. B) Am I glad?.... I dunno.......

    Tie down your GT3

The brake ducts are attached to the front suspension lower control/trailing arms and will therefore move upward a bit with suspension compression leaving the tie down eye as the lowest point to hit the pavement.
  11. Good job, Mike....it sounds like you are almost there! Let us know when you have the final hack. :clapping:
  12. Porsche has made a change to some code in the DMEs of my car and the other car of which I am aware that have had this particular fault code, P1266. A new, pre-programmed DME arrived at my dealership Friday and was swapped into my car. PAG intends to incorporate the fix into the next release of GT3 DME code distributed by CD to those with PST2 subscriptions. When that code is installed in my dealer's PST2, PCNA has asked that my original DME be re-installed in my car and the updated code re-flashed into the original from the PST2. That way, all my engine history data in my original DME will stay with the car. Thanks to PAG and PCNA for addressing this.
  13. I think it was Karl who posted this somewhere, but, I tried yesterday and it works. If you are on the gas, and press the brakes with your left foot, after a short delay, the throttle will drop to idle no matter the accel pedal position... BUT, if you release the accel pedal and get right back on it while still left foot braking, the throttle will now stay open and you can drag the brakes. It may not be what you want to be thinking about and doing on the track, but, you can, at least, dry your brakes after a car wash. Again, all this does NOT interfere with throttle blipping to match revs/double clutch while braking.
  14. 996's have been know to have creak noises coming from the front strut top bearings. The weight of a front corner sits on a "ring" of small ball bearings between the top spring perch which rotates with the steering and the strut top mount which does not rotate. On my '99 C4, I had creak/groans when turning the steering at a stop after having the ROW M030 installed by a dealer. Dealer found some updated strut top parts for the old '99 and installed them on warranty. Fixed the groans.
  15. Karl....All I know is the facts above as relayed by Service Mgr at one dealership and the Chief PCar tech at another dealership. I hope to hear more this week. I'll post any news promptly.
  16. I just heard from my dealer who just heard from the regional PCNA tech rep. He says that PAG/Germany is aware of the DME/OBDII P1266 Fault and failure mode. Further they know what is causing it and how to fix it in the DME software. A fix is in the works.
  17. GT3 DME Fault Memory Code P1266 Function Monitoring Fuel Shut-Off. The car stops and does not respond to the throttle...may or may not idle. Check engine light on, and OBC advises you to proceed directly to your Porsche Service Facility.......that is, if the thing will run at all. I am aware of two '04 US GT3's that have had this fault. PCNA first recommended replacing the DME. I learned yesterday that the fault reoccurred after DME replacement. Anyone else with experience or knowledge of this failure mode?
  18. Karl....Well....nothing (yet) other than what I read on the BBs that we both frequent. I have an email request into Larry at TireRack to notify me asap when MPSCs arrive in 235/40.
  19. Larry at TireRack now confirms that the Michelin Pilot Sport IIs N2 for the new GT3 are now in stock in 235/40-18 and 295-30-18. Note that the rear tire as supplied from Porsche/Michelin is an "XL", or extra load rated tire. The load rating for the 295 is "98" which is quite a bit more than the 93 we see on the next smaller size for the Carerra....the typical 285/30 has a load rating of 93.
  20. It happens with the factory Michelin Pilot Sport II N2s. To my knowlege, all US GT3s delivered to date have come with that tire. I understand that PAG will supply GT3s with a Pirelli tire as well, sometime in the future. I doubt that the steering effect that I am noticing is a function of the tires. It feels like suspension or drivetrain to me.
  21. Yes....you guys are right. I, too, can/have blipped the throttle for downshifts under braking, on the old '99C4 and on the new GT3. The eGas programming must be able to distinguish the two situations and allow blips. Interesting......
  22. Yes, I can understand that, Karl. It just surprized me since my old '99 C4 with eGas didn't do that.
  23. Interesting observation on the GT3. EGas shuts the engine throttle to idle (I think) when the brake is simultaneously applied beyond a minimum amount. I noticed this when trying to dry my brakes after a car wash. I was holding the throttle open a medium amount while applying the brake with my left foot to create a little heat in the brakes. Braking beyond a very light pedal would cause the engine to go to idle. I don't remember this effect in my '99 C4.
  24. Dranon.....For what it may be worth, on my '99 C4, I filled (overfilled?) the washer tank (car does have headlight washers) on a level surface and all was well. Then I parked the car in my driveway on a nose up incline. Washer fluid leaked from the left front wheelwell area. I put the car up, took off the wheel, and removed the fender liner.....and......found nothing wrong. Fiddled with everything, even took the tank out. In inspecting the tank, I saw that if it's overfull, and then you tip it slightly back (like parking on a nose up incline) it will overflow through the standard overflow pipe. YMMV.
  25. I like this idea, Flagman. Is it your intent to produce these for 'general consumption'?
