  1. So I thought I would get you guys across the pond updated in what went down in the UK recently. Porsche Club GB held its bigest event yet this year at Brands Hatch. It was a great event spanning two days of none stop racing. There were parade laps, register displays, and even a few CGTs there. The URL below is a 48Mb movie of the gorgious speed yellow CGT that was supposed to do 5 laps of the Indy circuit but it near lost it on the 3rd and he chickened out after that :clapping: As well as this PCGB also attempted to break a world record of the greatest number of Porsches on a track cicuit. It was hoped to get 600 but we only got about 270. Still we did set a record, the greatest number of moving Porsches on a track and Guines book of records was there counting us. It was great fun. The Yellow CGT headed us up and there were even Porsche Tractors on the circuit. Porsche AG prety muched emptied the museum and there were some serious cars on show. I will be posting pics of some of these amazing cars shortly. CGT-brands-hatch-2004.MPG (48MB) OK, where'd he get that T Shirt. Well before you ask, I had a few made up for my son and I so that we could give RennTech some advertising at the show. So please don't go bothering Loren about them. They don't exist ;)
  2. Never heard of that. Sheesh! I hope theygot it wrong. Can't bear to think that the axle seals could go too. Well I am on my 5th RMS seal replacement. Actually it's a real screw up so I would not bet on them screwing up for you too. Basically I have had, as far as I am concerned 4 RMS seals replaced but I have since been told after investigation by PUK that there were in fact only 3 replaced and the 4th is now due to be replaced. Apparently on one visit they didn't actually replace the seal despite telling me they did!
  3. No. I pulled every fuse in the box one at a time and meter checked them befire reseating them. I also pulled and reseated every relay. He's tried his spare key too so it can't be a key programming thing. If it was I would assume the fob wouldn't open the doors anyway but it does. I dismantled the column this afternoon and also did same on my car. I measured all the voltages and things with my meter and compared to my car. Looks good to me. Seems to me the ignition is working but the engine doesn't start. That is everything lights and you even get that lul in the electrical system as the car would normally start. You know, like when your radio blips out for a moment when you try to start the car. It does that too. I can also here the click and the same sort of high pitched sound when you turn the key to have the electrics on but don't actually start the car. I took the battery out and put it on mine. Works first time (altghough it's messed up a few things in my car :() Just don't know. I guess he will have to have my local OPC drag it in.
  4. Tried that. Even tried jump leads. Oh well for the time being I have two 996's parked in my drive. One is dead and the other is very sick. Why do I love these cars!
  5. I use 19" wheels and have no problem. The only issue is that you will have to bend in the front fenders. For more info on my wheels/tyres see my garage. Link below.
  6. Sheesh! hope it's not that, but glad it's not my bill. It's a 996, very early model. He had been out in the car most of the day and just popped in to see me. Went back to his car to go home and it won't start. Very strange. By all accounts it looks and acts fine. Just won't turn the engine.
  7. Friend of mine has a 1997 C2 Coupe manual. Just got back from his vacation 2 weeks. Took the car out for a spin and came to visit me. He's here now. Went out to the car, would not start. Battery seems OK and lots of charge considering it's stood for 2 weeks. Head lamps, and all electrics work fine. Can unlock/lock the car with the key fob. Put the key in the ignition and all the dash lights come up. Everything looks normal. Meter checked all the fuses. All checked out OK. Tried jump leads. No workey. I accidentally set the alarm off by pulling a wrong fuse so the alarm works fine. When I turn the key I can here the click from the engine bay (mine does that too). His wife brought down his spare key. Nope. Disconnected his battery, had coffee, reconnected it. Tried again. Nope. Reseated all the fuses and relays! Nope. Car just refuses to even turn over. Just in case your wondering, in the UK we don't have the foot on the Clutch switch. So it aint that. All out of ideas. Anyone?
  8. Hmmm.... Loren interesting choice of words to censor there. The word was "D A M N". Is that considered a swear word in the US? Just curios ;)
  9. Yea they are really worth the money. They are very well made and they take wide tyres unlike many other ramps. I can use them on my back tyres but they miss by 1/2" on the front. ****! As I said I am fairly certain on a stock 996 they will work fine as they are low profile and have long runup ramps. For less than $50 they are good value.
  10. Just as long as you don't put a swasticker in your avatar ;) Still think you should consider changing it though "natzoom" sounds better IMHO. Anyway, thanks for explaining.
  11. Sounds like the microswitch in the handbreak has gone faulty.
  12. Nat, Why in heaven did you choose a name like "natzee"? Sorry to take it OT but I have to ask.
  13. My 996 has the lowered 030 option so I have problems with ramps at either end. I purchased a set of low profile Rhino ramps http://shop.store.yahoo.com/rodi/usm11905.html They still don't fit but only just. I feel certain that a stock 996 would be able to drive up these as the ramp is extra long so it fits right up to the wheel.
  14. See http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=71459
  15. I take it you reset the computer each time you fill her up?
  16. Me likey! Thanks Dell. So where do you get this and how much. If it's from an OPC then a new gearbox would be cheaper I bet :D
  17. Is the light on with the idicators off? On RoW cars, if you park your car and leave the idicator column shift so that the idicators are flashing, then you turn your ignition off and remove key, the parking light will stay on. Failing that, sounds like a wiring problem. Maybe a fuse gone somewhere. Did you do any wiring?
  18. Hi Loren, How do I search for a posting by a user? Cheers,
  19. Does anyone elses 996 do this? Your driving down the road and you pull the window wiper control towards you to spray the window to clean it. All works fine, and the blade starts wiping the sprayed washer fluid across the window and cleans your screen. Half way through the wipe, I happen to pull the control towards me to release some more washer fluid and this is where I get the problem: the flippin wiping motor stalls while you spray but resumes when you stop spraying. I know it's niggly but it gets on my nerves. My car has always had this. Not sure if its a feature or a bug (or is that an oxymoron). On other cars the wiper motor just continues to wipe without stalling while I spray away rather than stall.
  20. Dell, The faceplates with the switches just clip off. Early models, the face plate is made up in sections so you can unclip just the section you need. I think later models have a single faceplate. Use a butter knife to prose the plate off but don't let the knife go in too far to short any switches. Cheers,
  21. No expert on this but isn't the AC temp monitored/set and adjusted using the in dash temp controller? Is this the part that needs to be replaced. I have seen these on ebay going for $100.
