  1. wow, where'd you get that pic?

is there a similar one for the Boxster 550 SE?

I personally like the 40th for the following:

1.) The color is beautiful in person. Personally, I'd replace the wheels, though. Or trade them for the normal Carrera II wheels.

I was wondering about the polished wheels as well, although I have yet to see them up close. Does anyone know what "shot blasted" wheels are?

    Cheers!

  2. the wheels are not chrome, but very shiny metal, and look just like the carrera 5 spokes

  3. i have a 2004 550 SE

i tried to change the air filter and use the BMC that i got from MMD for my 2002S

the air filter is indeed different

i didn't try and get the air filter out, because it was obviously round (like in the 987 drawing), so i cannot comment on the difficulty of removal

You might want to order the 987 tech intro booklet.  The part number is PNA 488 521 05 and it is about $25.  When the mechanics go to training school for a new model this is given to them.

The 987 intake is a new design.  There are drawings of it in the booklet.

At the local 987 tech session last month I wanted to take the filter out to see how it changed but Peter said it was a pain to get out.  I went to the parts department but they did not have one in stock.  The drawing of the filter on the parts list shows it as a round filter.  The 986 is flat.  Loren has the drawings.  I do not know if the 987 filter has foam on it like the 986.

What is interesting is that the part number for the 987 filter is the same as the 986 special edition, unless there is a mistake on the 986 parts list.  One of these days a special edition and 987 will show up at our work on cars days so we can check it out.

  4. i believe the spare tire option is only available in those countries that require a spare

    steve

The emergency wheel for the 987 is option code 447 and has the same (03) part number. The emergency wheel also needs a compressor to inflate the tire. I doubt Porsche would have created a new part if the old one could be used. The 01 emergency wheel was used in the early model C4 and early C4S. You would have to test it to see if it would fit - both in the trunk and wheel offset. As of MY04 the C4S also uses the 03 wheel.

Option code 447??? Is a spare now an available option for 06? I asked my salesman here in Canada a few weeks ago if there was a spare tire option for 06 and he said no. Can you give more info on this option 447? Is this a Boxster option? How much $$$ for this option? Thanks for your insight. Jim

  5. no, i am referring to the housing

the lip was raised to prevent water and cigarette butts forom being ingested

    Steve:

Thanks for the reply.  However, I think you are referring to the louvres (sp).  My issue is with the way the housing itself is mounted.  The passenger-side housing is nice and flush with the body.  The driver side housing is actually raised a bit above the body.

  6. be sure to check with the insurance company, the difference betw generic and OEM can be significant

i was told to order the trim strip that goes around the glass because it is frequently ruined when removing the old glass

there is a different color for certain models (ie boxster vs boxster s)

some people were told not to drive for a while to let the glue set, but i was not told that when i had mine done

make sure the dashboard and interior pillars are still in good shape wwith nno gouges or extra glue before you leave the shop

i asked for a recommendation at the p-car dealer and they were an approved shop for my insurance company, so it was all good

I called them today and they were going to put in the generic PPG windshield. I wanted them to order the oem one. Won't be ready for another week. Hope insurance still covers it.

  7. yup, that looks about right

similar in shape, but not the exact same part as the 986

do you want me to open it up later on to confirm/take pictures?

mahalo (thanks) for the confirmation on the 987 past

    steve

Here is the 2004 986 special edition part number for the air filter.  As you can see the part number is the same for a 987.  The M 091 after the part number means it is for the 986 special edition.

One of these days at our work on cars days a 2004 special edition will show up with as will a 987.  Then I will know if 987 parts were used on the 986 special edition.

the 550 SE filter is definetely different from the '04 986S filter

i tried to put my BMC (purchased from MMD back in the day) from my '02S in my SE and it wasn't even close

i can't remember what size or shape it was, i opened up the engine last fall :(l

K & N website does not list any filters available for 987 yet

i was told the SE filter is from the 987, but your info indeicates it is from the 997- mahalo (thanks) for the tip

did you look into whether or not there was a replacement for the tires you had

it seems to me for a tire to be that much cheaper, there is probably a newer model that supercedes what you own (which is now 4+ year old technology)

or there may be newer compounds/technology that you can take advantage of

in the meantime, be careful driving on those rear tires :)

  10. with BOSE?

am used to doing this on an '02 S with plastic window, but i cannot figure out the easy way to pull back the convertible top with the glass rear window

i tried it with the top almost all the way open, almost all the way closed, and halfway open

is there a trick to this?

and then, how do i take off the speaker box for the tweeters and sub- it looks like there is a plug on the passenger side, is this an easy removal?

    mahalo (thanks) in advance

  11. this product works as advertised, BUT the downside is that it leaves a "film" on the car that makes the water sheet off when it rains later and doesn't give you that cool "just waxed" beading look

i said on ppbb, a great product for SUVs and minivans, but not for people who like clean, polished cars

    just my 2 cents
