  2. Looks as you said a dodgy connection, on the condition that the central locking system works well. The light indicates that the central locking system is activated or not, but is independent of its operation, same as the rear fog light indication light. The light has no error code function.
  3. I would recommend to clean the engine properly in first place and check for leaks after a while, in that way it is much easier to detect a leak, saves time and is more efficient.
  4. Rear fog and front parking lights are not recorded in the control system in a 996/986, only the later types with control box have this option, i thought.
  5. Soft top with plastic rear window should not be put in motion at low temperatures, especialy when frozen, they will crack spontanious, they are too harsh as they get older.
  6. 997-1 has M96 M97 engines, 997-2 has a different engine, DFI MA101 and MA102, it is possible that they use the same oil check system as the Turbo cars, engine warm and idle. This must stand in the manual as it is the case.
  7. Hard to say, it can be anything a blown fuse, compressor electric motor, air leak in the pipes or suspension bellows, air distributor, air supply tank, control box, etc. With a PIWIS diagnostictool or similar, the problem can be examined.
  8. Given the cranckshaft pulley (driver) is smaller in diameter, all other OEM pulleys, waterpump, alternator, steeringpump, etc. will rotate slower. This can cause all sort of problems at lower speeds as city traffic, idle, etc. These products are suitable for racing purpose where always high engine speeds are achieved, not for cars that are used on public roads.
  9. Leaking steering rack/pipes can show such symptoms, you will have to look more closely. A 996 Carrera use power steering fluid only for the steering rack, not fore brakes and clutch. Only the Turbo version uses the same system for clutch assist.
  10. Top up till the hot full level with the engine in hot condition and keep an eye on the fluid level for a while. Perhaps there were still airbubbles in the circuit, or there is a fluid leak somewhere, outwardly or inwardly (internal leak in one of the pumps or steering rack)
  11. The problem which arises with all-season tires is that the performance and handling of the car are not as good as summer tires at higher temps., and not as good as winter tires in winter conditions. The bottle is half full or half empty depending on your mindset, but never perfect. Just my opinion on that matter.
  12. Check the fuses-if OK check the microswitch-if OK check the retract motor for open circuit-if OK check the wiring for pos. and ground, the wiring may break inside the grommet on top of the tailgate door ones in a while. If everything is OK, a diagram is recommended to continue, a PIWIS in "fault find mode" is even better.
  13. Removing the alternator and throttle body are sufficient, then there is room to manipulate the two Torkx screws. Dont forget to disconnect the battery, and after assembly, relearning throttle body, windows, radio, etc.
  14. Older cars are not equipped with an electric soft close system, it depends on MY. You can check it by removing the trim around the lock catcher, you will see the electric motor than.

  16. To start with, there are two different manufacturers: ZF and MB, yours should be a ZF. So you need the same brand Tiptronic, same type number (Carrera and Boxster are different given the 180° rotated installation of the powertrain) and same gear/transmission ratios. Tiptronic "S" or non "S" is not an issue, this only concerns a different control box and buttons. Hope it helps.
  17. The fan is located above the feet of the passenger (LHD) and is relatively easy to remove, just a few screws to remove and the fan slide out of the housing.
  18. There must be an intervention in the engine management as well, ignition timing, injection etc. Porsche does not permit such conversions, any kind of reponsibility shall cease.
  19. The rear side windows are not glued in, as the inner rubber seal is removed you will see that the window is attached, with screws, to a regulating system, sometimes the screws come loose with a creaking sound as result. Tighten the screws, in compliance with the rear side window up/down and in/out possition, and lubricate everything inclusive the seal with some silicone grease or spray. Then do a test drive related to the creaking and eventually wind noise. If the creaking still persist, it may be that one ore more weld points have come loose. That is more a bodyshop matter.
  20. As with all Porsche, use a PIWIS diagnostic device and leave, for this, a specific program run.
  21. Cd charger/player, control box towbar, etc. depending MY - country and code #.
  22. You can not empty the torque converter without removing the Tiptronic, the only way to empty the converter half way without removing the Tiptronic, is removing the valve block and let the Tiptronic a full night to drain. It would be a crazy idea and a big risc to do that only for an oil change IMHO.
  23. If the accident happened while driving is the risk of damage much smaller. However, it does not exclude asking the seller some warranty.
  24. Glad it is resolved, pay attention to the wiring nex time, the colours, and Hal sensors have 3 wires, Inductive sensors have only 2 wires. Are there no error codes appeared?
  25. When the hit happened with the car parked and in gear, it may be that the gearbox is damaged in the longer term, although it shifts fine at standstill and engine not running.
