  1. Pressure testing and Vacuum filling are definitely the way to go... when you vacuum fill its fast and reliable... also say good bye to porsche's complicated "bleeding" We use snap on pressure tester and vacuum filler.. AST has adapters for decent price... I believe the part number is FZ-22 (converts the porche threaded opening to a standard rad cap twist lock that works on most testers fillers. http://www.amazon.co...2/dp/B00063XLTS Sorry I keep thinking cayenne says carrerra . the above is for a 996 - 997 - 987 Cayenne Adaptor should be FZ 41 http://www.amazon.com/Assenmacher-Specialty-Tools-FZ-41/dp/B00063Y3TK
  2. its like the panamera flipped around :) you have to pay to play i suppose
  3. yes openening facing up... the part that faces the passenger should face up when stored.. I suppose you could pull the related fuses to the air bag for added protection.
  4. This is something you will have to research online... I used it in a customers 944 with a custom plate mounted in the center consol. a quick google search reveals options like these... http://www.andysautosport.com/porsche/1999_2004_996/interior/dash/gauge_pods/
  5. Here is one I have used in the past http://www.aemelectronics.com/boost-gauge-35-psi-767 Cheers.
  6. Thanks, Ill agree their support is lacking... the customer was really hot for that carbon piece i guess.... They said they might consider a refund to him if they put it on another panamera at their shop in az and it causes the same problem..... I think i know what the outcome will be lol... (i even thought about our cold temperatures creating more volume than in AZ) Chip tuners are saying they can take care of these issues with custom flash (also a 70 - 100 hp increase  ) So we shall see Up to the guy with the wallet at this point
  7. I know its hard to take me seriously with my popin fresh shades on in my profile pic :D But I did mean that... i would not trust the air bag system to save me in a crash while i have one of the modules removed! And yes, just because one bag is removed there is still and element of danger in certain circumstances... I was being specific to crash protection. JFP makes very valid safety points... I would add that when storing the removed air bag... do not keep it face down or under something... this way if it were to go off it wont launch itself or your workbench.. (they're pretty **** powerful) Heres a screen cap of Porsches safety/removal instructions... Cheers!
  8. As far as i can remember when there is a fault in the system and the light is on (ie.. removed pass airbag) the system is disabled and wont fire the remaining airbags. meaning that if you want passenger protection some might consider this "unsafe" Side note - when flashing system is armed and ready to potentially fire an airbag.. also unsafe.... After the missing unit is re-installed you will be able to clear the codes and carry on normally as you mentioned. Cheers
  9. - UPDATE - AP claims that the ECM should be able to make all nessecary adjustments and that no fault codes should be present. So we removed all the aftermarket intake pipes and re-installed the factory hoses and Y-Pipe. Cleared faults and went for an extensive test drive.... Vehicle runs great... full boost and no codes....... With the AP Y-Pipe, the fault code would appear even after holding revs off idle for about a minute.. Waiting on AP for some more support... Im trying to figure out if its a pressure differential issue just on the cusp of being out of range for the twin map sensors or would a mere throttle body adaption take car of the issue... I am able to replicate the fault with out being on boost.... (keeping fingers crossed for next durametric update for throttle adaptions!!!) Any thoughts?
  10. this might be the start of a dry / seizing ball joint or tie rod end.... Tough call without hearing it, but the creaking ball joints are common here in the north. Ive also seen seized steering shafts causing stiff steering... You will have to isolate the problem before you start throwing parts at it.. cheers.
  11. I concur...... recently changed an adjuster because of a sticky plunger..... also just had a cayman with intermittent rough running.... boroscope revealed bank 2 cylinders scored to sh!t! ( the oil burning + knocking didnt bother him untill it started running rough ) go figure. hate to give worse case scenarios but these are common realities with these engines.....
  12. I always use a little silicon lube on the seal of the electrical connector at the back of the headlight tray, sometimes when the seal is old and dry it prevents the connector from going all the way in, at worst ive seen them get broken this way. the fuse panel is located behind the plastic cover to the left of the dead pedal in the drivers footwell, there should be a fuse location card attached to the back of it. if not im sure a search here will reveal the info cheers.
  13. we have used tarett sway bars with great success. I don't drive, only install / setup. their sway bars look great, stout construction, great fit and adjust-ability my .02c
  14. you can also verify the top glass portion is closed properly... ive seen this a few times where the glass portion has been "partially" latched.
  15. this is an "s" which didnt come out till after 85 2nd gen http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=944+s&um=1&hl=en&biw=1280&bih=933&tbm=isch&tbnid=xBfpP3qA3CyKhM:&imgrefurl=http://jalopnik.com/5373669/1987-porsche-944s-for-a-traditionalist%2Boffending-12000&docid=ImRCXQL5wn2hvM&imgurl=http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/jalopnik/2009/10/NPOCP944Eng.jpg&w=640&h=480&ei=oFlGT96IOoHj0QHV1-iUDg&zoom=1 this is an "s2" http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=944+s2&um=1&hl=en&biw=1280&bih=933&tbm=isch&tbnid=5VjTXOI_9qMjmM:&imgrefurl=http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/summertime-1990-porsche-944-s2-cabriolet/&docid=URoESOTfeWTJ6M&imgurl=http://germancarsforsaleblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/1990-porsche-944-s2-cab-motor.jpg&w=797&h=578&ei=Q1pGT_iaLqPj0QGmpfiUDg&zoom=1 this is an 8 valve http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=944+8+valve&um=1&hl=en&biw=1280&bih=933&tbm=isch&tbnid=PNppW0OAq7u8uM:&imgrefurl=http://gtcarlot.com/data/Porsche/944/1985/46749314/Engine-46719279.html&docid=3BOLQWdBUsJj0M&imgurl=http://images.gtcarlot.com/pictures/46719278.jpg&w=1024&h=768&ei=d1pGT6usGeP20gGPx-CtDg&zoom=1 cheers...
  16. From your video looks like your regulated voltage is too high, that replacement alternator could be bunk! I would verify the voltage with a meter. Or go out to a local auto shop /store that can give you a charging system check. To verify Hope this helps
  17. Year make model? Can you put a volt meter on the battery while it is running and share your findings? Is the battery light on?
  18. These are from an 06 they might help The diagrams in our software for 05 are from 996 for some reason. Cheers.
  19. I've done many upon many cooling fan resistors and complete fan assemblies on 996's so I imagine the 997 is similar. The resistors clip near the bottom of the fans in front of the wheel wells. Cheers
