  1. Hi, I tried to do a search on this subject, but I could not find any help. I'm changing my CDR-220 to a JVC unit. I found the one I liked at Best Buy, but they did not have any wire kits for me. I tried Mobile One too ,but they didn't make them either. Is there a wire kit that I can use with my car for an easy installation? If I have to manually do all the wires separately, how hard is it? Thanks Kristian
  2. My radio crashed. I'm looking to replace the unit with something that looks close to stock. I also want and MP3 player, HD radio and USB front inputs. Any suggestions Thanks Kristian I have a 1999 carrera 4 with cdr-220 deck PS.Do I need an Audi installation kit for the radio and is it going to play all the six speakers without any modifications?
  3. Looks like your friend got a cheap Ferrari Kit car on a Fiero chassis :) Kristian
  4. Hi, I cant remember exactly, but the waterpump cost me about $100 on Ebay and the job took an hour... I would do it myself Kristian
  5. It took me about 7 hours to replace my clutch. The harderst part was to align it so that it went back in. I did not need a RMS tool. I took the seal to Home Depot and found a sewer line joint about the same size as the seal, then I just tapped it in with a mallet. It was my first time doing it and it was a bit tight when the car was on four jackstands. I needed help to get the transmission back in since it is heave to more around even with the tranny jack. The flywheel cost me $700 on Ebay and the clutch was about $350. Tranny jack was about $70... Kristian
  6. I had a few things go wrong around 60 thousand around the same time I did the 60 thousand service. The clutch and RMS seal cost me about $1000, since I replaced it myself. I also change the starter, alternator, battery, waterpump and evap tank. The total for those was also under a thousand. That's pretty much all the repairs i have done from the day I bought it 44 000 to today at 65 000. 1999 carrera 4 convertible Kristian
  7. Hi, I bought my 1999 Carrera 4 convertible at 44000 miles currently 65000 miles. It did not have any service records, but I had to have it. I've done all the repairs by myself except the clutch that I needed help with to put back on. I haven't bought any special tools or I have never taken it to a shop. Except for the new top and wheel change. I haven't worked on cars before at all and I've done all the work with the DIY instructions on this site. I've only bought a under plastic panel from a dealer, because they had a sale and it was the best deal available. I buy all my parts at Ebay, Pelicanparts, Sunset Imports or Autozone. I even got a core return on my alternator on Autozone, so it ended up costing me $160. I also got my wheels 265/35R18 Bridgestone Potenza RE750 for $200 a piece from Samsclub with special order... This is all the work I have done on my car so far in two and a half years. The car is a daily driver Tires New top with glass window clutch flywheel RMS seal starter alternator battery reverse switch spark plugs coil packs evaporation tank water pump three pulleys belt All parts were very reasonable in price and mostly easy to do yourself. The only thing I have to do in the near future is the brake pads, which should be pretty cheap and easy to do too... This is a big list of parts, but if you shop around and do it yourself, it's not that bad at all. Kristian
  8. I did my 60 000 maintnance myself recently. But I would also change the three pulleys. One of the three just broke and I was lucky that it did not do more damage. I heard it can even crack the side of your engine. So I would add that to the "to do list" too to be on the safe side. Kristian Carrera 4 1999 65000m
  9. Hi, I'm trying to replace my decklid shock with something fancier. The current one does not hold the lid up anymore. Does anybody have the pressure data for this part? 996 512 551 03 I have a 1999 Carrera 4 65000 miles Thanks Kristian
  10. Hi, I just had a question about oxygen sensors. I don't have an engine light on my car ,but I wanted to know if it was good to change them after a certain mileage? I have a 1999 Carrera 4 with 64 000 miles. How many sensors do I have in my car? It seems like I do everything the hard way :) Thanks Kristian
  11. I got a GAHH top from the internet. i paid an extra $100 for the defrost. I believe it came to around $1300 with shipping and $500 for labor to put it on at a convertible top shop. The top is great especially because the back window is glass. It looks better than the original. I recommend it. kristian
  12. Hi Loren, It seems like I need two parts. Do you have the OEM for part number 4? Porsche 996 Carrera 4 1999 Thanks Kristian
  13. Thanks for the information. Kristian I go through rotors on my track car pretty fast, and have had the opportunity to use Porsche branded, Zimmerman (Porsche OEM) and some no names too. Frankly, I have not found a difference in how long they last on my track car....I have seen some differences in the hole patterns on the rears, and I have had different experiences in how effective/ineffective the corrosion resistance is on the hats, but that has been the extent of the differences, except for price. The hats on Porsche branded rotors will not rust. Zimmerman rotors that say the hats are treated to prevent rust, will not rust either. It has been hit or miss for me from there - some cheapos I've gotten that promised no hat rusting, did rust. For me, I buy the cheapest I can find that have directed vanes because I only use them a few months and then replace. I think for most, though, you want Porsche or Zimmerman that will not rust. Z is often cheaper. JMO
  14. Hi, I'm thinking about changing my disc's and brakes pads on my car. I went to Pelicanparts and I see disc's starting from $128 to $202. What's the difference and is it worth it. Also, can I buy the more expensive ones to the front and cheaper ones to the back? Porsche 1999 Carrera 4 65000 miles Thanks Kristian
  15. Thanks guys for the help. I went to Porsche of metairie website ,but I could not find a 20% discount coupon. Kristian
  16. Hi, I just ruined my underbody plastic coverings by driving over a rock on my lawn. Does anybody have the part numbers for both plastic coverings and maybe a place for the best deal. 1999 carrera 4 convertible. thanks Kristian
  17. I just retightened the silver arms because you can't buy them separately..
  18. If you go on Ebay and type in "Porsche 996 led tail light" you get a bunch of them on sale. These are actually replacing the whole tail lights not the 3rd brake light. Kristian
  19. What do you mean by plus 120 degree tightening angle?
  20. Hi, I'm doing a clutch replacement myself and everything has been pretty smooth so far. I'm almost done unfastening all bolts on the transmission and just about to lower it down. Question I have a Carrera 4 and I'm trying to detach the front shaft off my transmission. There are 6 bolts three on each side. I unbolted them all but it's not detaching from the transmission. Does anybody know how to get it off? The instructions are in C-speed racing (RMS seal replacement), but the vehicle is a Carrera 2 Thanks Kristian
  21. Thanks Loren, Prying worked, but it did not come out as easy as expected. Kristian
  22. I finally decided to do the clutch and flywheel replacement myself. The whole process of removing the transmission is at halt now because i can't figure out how to get the shift selector cables off the transmission casing. I can't figure out how to loosen the ball joint. I twisted up the three prongs on the ball joint and it should snap off, but it's not coming off. Has anybody had any experience with this before? Thanks Kristian
