  1. I got mine from CQLights.com. Here's a thread with details: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10247
  2. Received the replacement bulb and put the HIDs back in. They've been working fine for the past couple of days, no problem. I don't know if the problem is deeper than a bad bulb or not, and unfortunately winter is coming so I won't be able to replace parts under warranty should something else go wrong, because I won't be driving the car for the next few months. Luckily the replacement bulbs are not that expensive, but if one of the light bulbs burns again I'll have to look deeper for the cause. In any event, all is well again with the HIDs, at least for the time being. Now, as far as the LEDs on the sides - they still flicker, either one or the other, none, or both... I think the problem is that LEDs are much more sensitive to incoming current than regular bulbs. I also think that main lights have better current regulators than side lights and that's why I see flickering only on the sides. I did a search and found out that a lot of people have issues with LEDs because they are so sensitive. In many cases, even adding an in-line voltage regulator didn't help. On the bright side, it doesn't look like a flaw to those who don't know, but rather like a 'feature' :) I even got compliments on the flickers from various people, hehehe.
  3. It appears that the light bulb itself is not working, the rest is fine. I swapped light bulbs with the working side and the light did the same thing. Then I took the 'good' bulb and hooked it up to the wire harness on the other side and the light worked. I sent a note to CQLights to see what needs to be done to exchange the bad bulb. Question: I thought these lights were supposed to last a lot longer than halogen lights. If mine went out after only 6 months, what could be the cause? Bad bulb? Something else in the electrical system that somehow caused the light to burn? Thanks, azzar0.
  4. I sent a not to CQLights - they haven't replied yet. You said you have yours connected directly to the battery - how did you do that and how do you control the lights? Are you using a different switch? I followed the instructions that came with the package, everything was fine for 6 months and then the passenger light stopped working. If it was a problem with the installation don't you think it would have surfaced before? It just seems odd that 6 months later issues happen - I never had a problem with these lights until last weekend. The flickering occurs on the side lights, not the HIDs. The side lights are LEDs and sometimes they both flicker, sometimes only one (either right or left, not sure what triggers this behavior). Sometimes turning the lights off and then back on seems to solve the issue; other times it doesn't help. I was out of town last weekend and didn't have much time to spend on the lights problem, but since I was driving the car I had to have a light so I put my stock bulb in. Now I have HID on the driver side and stock on the passenger side. I will look at the lights tonight and see if I can get the one with the problem to work. I'll switch sides to see if it does the same thing on the driver's side. Thanks, azzar0.
  5. It's a 986 (98 base model). Is there a voltage regulator or something I could install before the lights? And the flickering on the side LEDs doesn't happen all the time, but it is more frequent now. The battery is new, I just changed it a couple of months ago... Thanks
  6. Hi Gus, have you fixed your problem yet? I am having the same issue with my CQ lights - passenger light won't turn on. I used to be able to turn them off and back on and then the passenger light would work, but now it just flickers for a second, like it's trying to light up, then it goes out and stays out. For the time being I took the HID out of the left side so now I have HID on the right and stock on the left! I might just take them both out and go back to stock until I figure it all out. Also, I noticed that my side lights (blue LEDs to match the color of the HIDs) are flickering. They are on, but not solid, they have a little flicker in them. It almost looks like one of the 7 or 8 leds is rapidly going out/in, making the light look like a Christmas light... Anybody have an idea as to why this happens? Also, it doesn't happen all the time, but it looks like the frequency of this occurrance has increased lately. Thanks!
  7. 1 x H7 6000K Automobile HID Kit from CQLights Are you experiencing any problems when the lights are turned on...such as idiot lights on your instrument panel coming on when hjeadlights are switched on??? I have the same kit. Trouble since day one. Bob No problems with the instrument panel, idiot lights never came on before or after I installed the kit.
  8. eBay has some for sale too sometimes, but you have to check often: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-996...sspagenameZWDVW
  9. Might as well paint your calipers while you're at it: http://www.xenonmods.com/boxster/caliper/ I also used Mintex pads and so far so good. Less brake dust than stock, but squeaky without the vibration pads. I haven't replaced the rotors yet, but when I do I will go with the drilled ones as well. Good luck!
  10. Very simple procedure, should take no more than 30 minutes. I've done it in 5 minutes. This link will tell you how to replace the actual belt. To get to the belt you have to remove the carpet behind the seats (remove 4 screws on top of the carpet), then remove the engine cover. Once you have it open, follow the instructions here: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=7061 Good Luck!
  11. Where did you get the repair CDs from? Are they ToolPants' DVDs or other CDs? Thanks!
  12. You could use a hair dryer to heat up the tube a little bit. Also, did you disconnect the tube from the other side? I found it easier if it's disconnected from both ends. A lot of people had trouble taking the tube out and putting it back in. Mine came out with a little wiggling and went in without too much fuss. Good luck! azzar0.
  13. Throttle Body DYI link: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...ttle+body\ On my Boxster I ended up taking off the 4 screws that hold the TB to the engine to have better access. Someone noted that you should disconnect the battery when you take these screws off (I didn't and nothing happened, but you never know). Good Luck! azzar0.
  14. I wonder if you can have the same functionality on a car that doesn't have the keyless entry remote. Did you buy Sens56 Juniinc? Can you do a DIY write up when you install it so that the rest of us have a better idea on how to install it? I would like to hook one up too.
  15. The radio code is to 'activate' your original Porsche unit. After you disconnect the battery for more than 20 seconds (I think) you have to enter it. If you don't have the stock unit anymore and you plan on selling the car with the new super-system you're putting in, then you don't need the code.

  17. ouch, my ears hurt just looking at it!!! I don't think that is a good spot for a sub, IMHO. It's too close to the ears and it must interfere with the other tones. You probably have it set on low and the other tones on high to compensate for the position? There doesn't appear to be enough room for resonance, but you do have it lifted so that can somehow give it enough air to pump...
  18. The Lexans don't fit without the original windscreens. I got them yesterday but they're too small. The ones I made are longer (to cover the bottom more). The guy who makes them could cut new ones for me to fit the exact shape I want, but I haven't decided if I want to do that yet. He can also make a full windscreen to completely replace sides and center, however he uses screws to tap into the rollbar itself and I don't want to make any holes... Grandma's speakers eh? hahahaha, you're funny :D I'm still laughing at your comment!
  19. In these pictures the HIDs look greenish! But in reality they are blueish, and they match the side lights very well:
  20. LOL I appreciate your crude honesty :) It's hard to tell but the screen actually has a nice pattern. I like it better than the silver mesh. I'll see how it does with the wind (that's my original goal - to reduce the wind in the cabin) and take it from there. I like these ones because they are sturdy. I also tried fiberglass screen - no good, that just looks like a - well, it looks like a screen door. Cheers :renntech:
