  1. Hi All I have a quick question I replaces the slave cylinder. Now my clutch pedal feels completly different it engages and releases alot lower than before. Infact it is completly the opposit to before. (the upper part of the pedal is not been used) What can I do to change this. The car changes gear good no grinding. I did not have a power bleeder so I took my time and used gravity. Was this the fault. Thanks Christopher
  2. Hi I just removed the slave cylinder and the push rod fell out. my questions. (cylinder was leaking) 1. Does the new slave cylinder come with a push rod attached or do I have to order seperatly? 2. What direction does the push rod fit into the cylinder? (it has two different ends) (any diagram) I ordered the new slave cylinder from a local dealer for $110 He told me it has been revised three times. Thanks Christopher
  3. Hi All I sat into my car on Saturday to start my sixth autocross run of the day. I depressed the clutch peddle to start the car and it stayed on the floor. After a while I had a pool of break fluid (just changed last week)on the road under the engine section. I limped home changing gear with out a clutch and a fellow PCA member following in case of problems. The general view at the event was that the slave cylinder failed. I just put the car up on all fours and took a look. The fluid is comming out the bottom of the housing where the gearbox meets the engine(just like a RMS leak). So it looks like the slave cylinder?? arround the slave cylinder is dry. Have I runed my clutch if the fluid is comming out from there. (only put a new on in october 07) Any suggestions to what I should do. Change slave only or do I have to change the clutch also.? I had a post about a hesitation when I shanged gear a little while ago I found that this decreased alot when I put the new fluid in last week I dont know if this is related. Any help would be appreciated Christopher :renntech: MY99 manual C2 cab
  4. Hi Any body out there have any idea. Why the key wont lock the passangers door (centeral locking not working) and why it wont raise the top when it is used in the drivers door. thanks Christopher
  5. Hi to All I have just noticed when I lock the car with the key the drivers door locks but the passangers does not. Also if I use the key in the door to lower the top it works but if I try to raise it with the key it wont work nothing happens. The alarm with the key fob work perfect and locks and unlocks all doors. What could the problem be any solutions MY99 manual C2 cab
  6. Would 17" or 18" cayenne wheels(rims) fit a 996 I am looking for another set of rims for use on track and autocross I see some for sale locally. Thanks
  7. I got the same supprise this weekend and then remembered If the car sits with the alarm armed for more than five days the key remote will not work it goes into stand by mode to save the battery, you have to dis arm with the key in the door . See your owners manual perhaps this is the problem
  8. Hi I just had my wife depress the gas peddle and the butterfly does not open all the way. What is ment by remove the cable connection (is this the snapin black piece in the housing) Do i just use a screwdriver it push it back. Should it be turned clockwise or anticlockwise. I dont want to break anything. Track day on tuesday!! thanks
  9. Hi All I have a MY99 C2 cab. I noticed that I have a little slack on the trottle cable. When i put my finger an the cable where it attaches to the trottle body it depress about 1/4" Is this normal? I am wondering if this is related to the hesitation jerky motion I have mentioned on another post. I plan to look into the trottle body this evening How can I tell if it is opening fully? and how can I make adjustments if necessary? Thanks Christopher MY99 manual Cab 57,000miles :renntech:
  10. Hi loren I checked the coils all have a little crack of some sort 1 to 2 per coil . i checked the resistance and got 0.5 Ohms on each at about 55degrees so they all pass. what should i try next. I got a price of $50 per coil so i would rather have a definate result before replacing them. thanks Christopher
  11. Loren I have the car up off the ground I have not taken the coils out but i have taken a closer look at them, I see littie cracks around where the allen screw holds them on. would this be enough to cause the issue. I dont know how to claen the MAF and i am reluctant to touch it as i have read of others having problems after. is there a way to check the coils when removed to see if one is bad. the part code on two off the coils is beru 996 602 102 00 (the rest are blank) I have had no CEL or no misfires.
  12. thanks loren I have 57200 miles now plugs were changed at about 53000 as per your DIY (thanks) I do not know what bad coils would look like(any photo) I cleaned the throttle body two weeks ago. thanks Christopher
  13. Hi to all When I change up a gear I get a little hesitation( jerking motion not smooth gear change) in the car. This is most evident when moving slow or with normal street driving especially from first to second. If i hold the clutch a little at the end of a shift it is a smoother shift. With more agresive driving there is no evidence of it. The car had a new clutch flywheel etc the issue was evident before this. I had my first DE event this week and the car was great on the track. The instructor noticed the lack of smoothness while in the pit but not on the track. He suggested dirty injectors. any body have an idea on the problem or a possible solution. thanks Christopher MY99 911 ocean blue manual cab
  14. Hi I have been told about Swepco 502 Oil Improver for reducing the tapping in a noisy lifter. Has any body tried this. thanks Christopher
  15. I would also like the thank everybody. Renntech has given me so much information and saved me alot of money Keep up the good work Christopher
  16. I have the same problem also. I had 0w50 oil, added the mystery oil for about 300 miles. The mystery oil made no difference. I now changed to 5w50 oil the only difference was the noise is a little more noticible when the engine was cold. With the 5w50 the noise is not always present. Anybody out there with a solution as I dont want to tackle a lifter replacement just yet. Christopher MY99 ocean blue manual cab
  17. Hi Would it be possible that they are track pads and not porsche pads. I just replaced my rotors and pads. I read a little on this forum that other pads squeal under normal road use when the are designed for the track.
  18. Hi All I was replasing my right front parking light. I took out the headlight as per the manual. It said for litronic lights remove the wire before pulling out the headlight. I have no such wire I see two plugs for wires on the headlight but only one wire. After a lot of searching I replaced the bulb and put the head light in. All lights are working and the parking bulb was H6W. Can any body tell me why I have the socket on the headlight and no wire and all lights work. On another note I would like to thank Loren for his DIYs I just replased all my rotors and brakes . I got my parts from IRA porsche in Danvers Ma they give a good discount to PCA members so I went with porsche parts rather than after market. Thanks Christopher 99 ocean blue manual 996
  19. Hi All I have removed all pads and rotors ( used the DIY instructions thanks loren) I plan to replace the pads and rotors with origional parts during the week. I would like to reuse the dampers again what type of adhesive is needed to attached them to the back of the pads. Thanks Christopher 99 ocean blue manual cab
  20. Hi to All I have looked over the forum for an answer but i am still confused. I have been told I need new Rotors and pads for my car. I plan to use the car for one DE event (2 Days) the rest of the time regular road use. I plan to get the zimmerman rotors (powder coated). As for the pads I am confused. What do you suggest I was told padig (but what colour) i was also told Mintex. I have to get this togeather this week I will be doing the work myself. Thanks to all Christopher 99 ocean blue manual cab
  21. Hi All I have two problems at the moment!! 1. in my drivers seat when I raise the front up under my knees the seat rocks up and down a little when don to the last no issue. This is anoying when accelerating. Any suggestions on a solution or a replacement part before I start to take the seat out.I have my first DE event with PCA in NH on the end of April (anybody going). I would like to get this fixed along with some other things before this. 2. My passanger side parking light is out. On following the instructions in my owners manual I dont have the correct tool. What is the part number of the tool I need to unlock and rotate out the compleate light. It is missing from my tool kit. thanks for all your help Christopher MY99 6speed cab
  22. Hi to all I had my car parked for 3 weeks. Now I noticed a clunk when I accelerate when i take off from a stand still. I dont know exactly where it is coming from. When my hand is on the centeral console I feel it there but the sound sceems to come from under the drivers side. I dont think it is the hand break. It makes the noise going forward and backward Anybody got an ideas I see mention of sway bars on other posts. How do I check them and what would their symptons be if they were faulty. thanks in advance christopher MY99 cab
  23. Hi Chris I also had the same concerne when trying to remove my driverside mirror. I took me three attempts before I had the courage to pull the mirror hard enough to remove it. It is held in the center with the clips and the two wires are attached to one side. the wires are not very long so try not to pull the mirror out to far when it first releases. they can be easly removed when the mirror is in your hand Christopher
  24. Check your states lemon law I got a 993 last year from a dealer and had the same problem $10k to fix. By mass law they had to fix the car or buy it back from me. I got all my money back with alot of efford put up a fight and get legal advise. good luck
