  1. Has the steering wheel been removed? Sometimes the ring that holds the three or four stalks (wipers, cruise, and turn signals and/or on-bord computer if you have a fourth stalk) is not been seated or re-installed properly. The sound is more like a grinding sound rather than a creaking sound however.
  2. Hi Peter, Upgrading to a six channel amp will only power your rear speakers. You will need a harness to get from the back of the radio to the AMP. If you need PIN assignments I can help! I have an extra 4x AMP if you want to give it a try. Where are you located? The harness to the amp is pretty straight forward to remove. Have you had any troubles with other electrical issues. The reason I ask is sometimes a faulty ignition switch can be the culprit. Check Andy_M write-up for sound upgrade. Link is HERE Regards
  3. Changing the oil is a very simple DIY. I agree with Logray. Loosen the drain plug and gather some oil and make a determination from there Regards
  4. The spark plugs come pre-gapped, you should try to re-gap them. Show a picture of your leak purhaps it will help to determine source.
  5. Most problems with fade and balance usually stem from a faulty ignition switch. Are you experiencing other unexplainable electrical problems?
  6. Anyway to replace the bulbs that you know of?
  7. I have a CDR-210 Radio that the illumination back light stopped working. Has anyone experienced this? Everthing else works fine. Thanks!
  8. I replaced the J tube when I did my AOS replacement. The J tube connects the AOS to the throttle body. Can't be sure why I did. It's been a couple years ago.
  9. You need five wires. Three of one kind and two of another. The yellow VW wires terminate in a special male connector. You should have three VW wires exactly the same (part # 000-979-009). You cut two of these in half (you now have 4 wires) and install them into the plug-in connector (part # 999-650-056-40) in slots 2,3,4 &5. The cut ends of these wires will be spliced into other wires later. You take the thitrd wire (uncut) and place one end into connector slot #1. You cut the free end of this wire close to the end and crimp on a 6mm eyelet to the end. This eyelet gets connected to ground. You should also have two other VW wires (part # 000-979-010). You cut these in half. You now have 4 wires. Connect the cut end of these wires to the wires above that occupy slots 2,3,,4 & 5 of the plug-in connector. Label these. The plug-in connectors snaps into the 4th stalk on the steering wheel column. The ground gets place behind a ground screw. In 2001 and up Boxsters the wires connect to the Grey Instrument Cluster connector in the following order. #2 to pin #23 on grey cluster #3 to pin #22 on grey cluster #4 to pin # 21 on grey cluster #5 to pin #24 on grey cluster Hope this helps!
  10. The part number is 996-552-625-01 not sure of the color you need. Check with Jeff at Sunset Porsche.
  11. Changing the water pump in a 986 was quite simple. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being air in the tires and 10 being engine replacement, I would place it at a 4. Not sure if the 987 is much different.
  12. Before installing the Italian airhorn, I had previously installed the tradition horns available from Pep Boys. They were very similar to "Tool Pants" posts. The Italian Horns were compact and even after installing a third radiator in my 98 (non-S) they fit easily above the radiator.
  13. I used the KIT and the hoses in ths KIT are larger than the boxster (non-S) connections. I just clamped it tight. No leaks yet?
  14. Some also park on plywood to help avoid flat spots. Add a gasoline additive and change the oil. I'm not sure if you have rodents, but you may want to stuff something in tailpipe and place a note near key (to remind you) to prevent starting until removed.
  15. I recently installed an intermittent wiper relay and have an extra regular relay that worked perfectly when removed. Hollar if you are interested.
  16. Hi SImon, I have a 8 pin "A" connector. PM me with contact info.
  17. How about Becker 1 CDR220 BE 4462 SN W5010196 Thanks!
  18. The fact that your CEL light went off is a good thing. Check the CEL light on start-up. Turn your key and see if the CEL illuminates before you crank your engine and then after start-up the light goes out. That way you know the CEL bulb is not at fault. WELCOME!
  19. You might think of replacing them with an Italian Airhorn. Easy to install.
  20. Welcome to Renntech! At the top of this page under DIY Menu you can get access to 986 maintenance schedules for your 99 Boxster. I would recommend becoming a "Contributing Member" to have full access to this site. I would also purchase the Bentley Porsche Boxster Service Manual (<$100) and if you do a lot of your own work the Durametric OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) Scanner and Software. I've saved the cost of these tools and many others a 100 times over by doing my own work. Welcome again!
  21. Hi Bruce, I had the Alarm Code 33 as well. My alarm would go off at all times of the day and night. The Fault Code 33 can always be read by the Durametric Tool. It shows if the fault is present and also is a counter as shown in the freguency counter number immediately following. I replaced the infared interior sensor (located by the center top interior light/switch) from Sunset Porsche and all is well. Very easy to replace and took less than 30 minutes. If you take off your visors, be careful in removing and re-installing (don't overtighten) the two torx screws on outer sides, as once stripped, you will need to replace the receiving nut with new nut rivets with a pop rivet tool. Besides the visors the screws also provide support for your soft/hard top.
