  1. well i finished my install , of the x51 intake and the headers. the alternator removal was a pain, it just would not come out, but once again the forum helped me out, the bushing on the alternator gets rusted, so it wont budge, but few bang with the hammer on the bolt it loosened up the bushing an the alternator came righ out. oil filler pipe swap was a breeze. just be patient. impresse witht the results, car now has a better throttle respones, and slightly quicker. next is the 20 mm euro sports supsension. I have assembled all the suspension outside the car, just have to swap it now. How do I remove the alternator? Do I need any special tools? All tips are welcome :) Alternator wasn't taken out by my mechanic, he just took off the belt, it moved down a bit and he was able to get his hands in there to do the job.
  2. Seems a little quicker but only on the butt dyno. Not really louder, maybe deeper.
  3. I did not extend the wire. It is tight, but fine. If I wanted to make it longer I could separate it a little from the wires it is taped to.
  4. It is the lip, bumper, vents and these brackets and center piece. The bumper is only $600. The rest of the stuff brings the price over $1000.
  5. I was considering doing the gt3 front bumper on my 997. I know a few have done this already and was wondering about the parts needed. Is it just the bumper, vents and lip needed or are there other parts like brackets and such? Could anyone list the needed parts for the conversion? Thanks, Neil
  6. I get 15 around town and 25 on the highway. You have a 996 and I have a 997S, thus a larger engine.
  7. Hey Porchester, How are the mods coming. I just ordered the x51 airbox. I had a question for you. Did you also do the x51 throttle body? I am not sure it would fit. Do you think I could call and talk to you? You could email me your #. neil.schneider@comcast.net Thanks for any insight. Also ended up with the suncoast ebay headers. They look just like the evo ones. Still I am thinking of going with the x 51 headers. Neil
  8. I had an 03 cab also and ended up changing the whole bose system. Rick Reus has 3 great systems for that car. www.reusaudio.com He is a nice guy and very knowledgeable. He has done 1000s of 911s. If you don't want to go that route, just accept it for what it is. Or you could get a 997. The bose in that car is pretty good. Even Rick Rues thinks so. Good luck.
  9. I am considering these same mods. If I was on the fence about the headers I think I would go with the porsche ones. That way you could stay all oem. Although I think either would be fine I like the idea of the x51 headers.
  10. I love that airbox, why not do the x51 headers too? So quicker? Is the inlet of the right side bigger? It looks like it from the picture.
  11. Yep, the c4s is the slowest coupe and the c4s cab even slower. Weight hurts, and the m3 is fast. With this these two cars it comes down to the driver and shifting. IMO.
  12. I like my escort 8500. I tried my friend's V1, which is a great detector, but I found it was always falsing and there is no automute. What a pita. Also the escort was easy to get locally and less money.
  13. I think that is too much oil consumption. 1 quart every 1500 to 2000 miles maybe but not 1 quart every 500/600. My 03 was consuming 1 to 2 quarts every 400 miles or so and after battling with PCNA, they finally replaced my engine. I did have black spots behind my left tail pipe. Since I got the new engine(about 3000 miles ago) there has been no oil consumption that I can tell.
  14. Save your money, unless you just want a sound upgrade. There have been a lot of discussions on the upgrade topic, including intake. headers exhaust and chip. Some say it is worth it some say no. I did it on my last car and could not tell the difference. You know, if I could do all the above changes for $1000 or so I might take the risk, but for $2500 and up for those changes....forget it. IMO.
  15. Real nice job and looks perfect. Wish I had a widebody(car, that is).
  16. Congrats on the car. The manual addresses the shifting question. Those wheels do look aftermarket. I let my car warm up a little but only a minute or two. I have never heard it is bad to let it idle up to normal temp. I wouldn't think it would do any damage to the engine.
  17. Congrats on the car and the new system. I have an aftermarket system with an eclipse. Athough the sound is great the ergonomics of the head are terrible....knobs too small and in the sun you can't see the face at all. I have a cab. Do you think the screen is bright enough to see in full or partial sun? Also just integrated that ipod nano into the system and now CDs are worthless.
