  1. The only person who wanted to race me was on a Suzuki. He pulled up next to me then passed me in a wheelie on the freeway. My problem is the opposite, the gropes in their SUVs, especially Range Rovers, who dwadle along oblivious to the cars they are holding up. Same with Volvos. It seems that most Priuses pass me on the freeway (85+).
  2. Here is AlJezeeraEnglish's take on the takeover. No new info but some classic film clips.
  3. Hi. As you have read on the other posts don't paint the actual disc surfaces, just paint the hubs or "hats". For my discs I degreased the hubs and sanded them lightly. I sprayed them with Rustoleum Cold Galvanizing. This is a high zinc content grey primer. I have not had any rust in 3 years. I hope this helps.
  4. Same here. My 2002 C2 with 64,000 miles does not use oil between annual changes (about 8,000 miles). However, I use Mobil 1 0W-40. As a point of reference my wife's 2002 325i, 66,000 miles, also does not use any oil between changes (about 7,500 miles). That car uses BMW's 5W-30 synthetic, which is their special blend of Castrol Syntec.
  5. Have you folks been following the Porsche/VW financial gymnastics in > RennTech.org Forums > Events and News > News, Information, Rumours > Porsche Takeover, Volkswagen Mulls Porsche Takeover? This is better than any soap opera. It appears that one way for Porsche to relieve its debt burden is to have VW buy them. This would give Porsche access to VW's cash reserves. It also would put Ferdinand Piech at the top since Winterkorn is "his boy". Der Spiegel has an interesting series of articles.
  6. Here is an update from Reuters. http://www.reuters.com/article/innovationN...E5411AW20090502
  7. I also have the Kuhmo SPTs on my 2002 C2, 235/40-18 and 295/30-18, and I am very satisfied with them. Good price from Big-O in Walnut Creek, good ride, lookas as if they will last a long time.
  8. Yes, the cost of shipping would be quite much. Perhaps someone in the UK can source the Forest wheels for you.
  9. You may want to look at Wheel Dynamics, in Monterey Park, CA. They have a few sets of the MkII GT3 replicas and the Race Inc. Style 909 Forged which looks like the MkI. The MkIIs are pressure cast, made by Forest in Italy. I have the 8.5x18 and 11x18 on my '02 996 with stock suspension.
  10. Yeah, they look pretty good for 66,000+ miles. The color on the threads sort of looks like the color on the threads of plugs I've replaced over the years on different makes of cars. I don't think it is a problem. The reddish deposit on the side wires is interesting. I have not seen that color on my plugs. I use Chevron or Shell gas and either Mobil1, Syntec, or Chevron Supreme motor oils depending on the car and I have never seen a reddish deposit.
  11. Hi. You may want to read the story about the eRuf 911 in the current issue of "Excellence". Also, a previous issue had a story about a 914 conversion.
  12. A 1999? It appears to have 2002+ headlights and front bumper cover. Looks as if the previous owner added a lot of mods to the car before it was sold.
  13. Foster, thank you for the tip about AAA towing procedures. I will keep a copy in my 911.
  14. Maybe all (or all the oil) is not lost. 8 quarts of 0W-40 and 1 quart of 0W-20 will give viscosities of 74.7 cSt at 40C and 13.4 cSt at 100C. These values are within 5% of the 0W-40 spec's. This should not be a problem for street driving. If the car is going to be tracked then it should have the 15W-50 in the first place. I wonder what the viscosity tolerance is during Mobil 1's blending and bottleing. 0W-20, eh? The Mobil 1 website lists only two 0W-20 oils. One is a racing oil that will not be available until Spring 2009. The other is an Advanced Fuel Economy oil. The racing oil has the advantage of twice the amount of anti-wear additive. However, that could shorten the life of the cat. converters. The fuel economy oil is just thin to cut friction. Interesting topic. RennTechers, enjoy the holidays!
  15. Are all nine+ quarts 0W-20 or just the one bottle? If it is just the one bottle then the mix is approximately a 0W-38 which will have no effect on the motor.
  16. Hi. I did a search on the 'net and found a couple of good TruType fonts somewhere out there. Some are not that accurate so check out several until you find an acceptable font.
  17. Never mind. I figured it out. The blue locking tabs have to be pushed-in very hard.
  18. Well, the radio, CD-220, was easy to remove from the dash using the Becker removal keys. The problem now is how does one remove the keys from the radio? They will not simply pull out. What is the trick to remove them? I tried reinstalling the radio but that would not free the keys. TIA.
  19. Good information. Thank you. Another source for cables is Metra Electronics at: http://www.metraonline.com/default.aspx They have a cable (70-1787) which will allow me to connect a Dual XHD6425 to the Bose amp and existing power supplies with only four splices.
  20. racerken, congratulations on your new motor. I believe the '09s have the new motor design which eliminates the IMS.
  21. They are 20360. The actual production date for my car is 29AUG01. Check your dealer service invoices. When I took my car to the dealer for some work the computer spit out the production date.
  22. FWIW, my 2002 measures at 26-7/16 & 26-1/4 with 18" wheels, 225/40 CSC2 on front and 295/30 Kumho Ecsta SPT on rear. This is measured at the wheel opening just above the high point of the tire. It is an October 2001 build so it may have settled more on the springs. It has the stock suspension. The springs are front: blue+brown/blue, rear: brown+brown/white.
  23. 288 - Headlight Washer 601 - Litronic Lights 981 - All Leather Lining 939 - Soft Leather Rear 985 - Parts Silver Colored Try this link http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...90&hl=codes Hope this helps. Will i have a few as well that dont seem to exist on any list posted 135 245 336 I cannot find these: I218, I226, I434, I912
  24. No problem. I did not take your post as criticism. I figured that as a ME (I'm a ChemE) you would appreciate the term "L/d". Sorry to read about your 18" lightweights. I probably should check mine also.
