  1. I'm using an Innova scanner, model 3100. This is the data that is saved by this scanner: Parameter Description Results DTC for which Freeze Frame was Stored P0300 Fuel System 1 Status Closed Loop Fuel System 2 Status Closed Loop Calculated LOAD Value 5.49 % Engine Coolant Temp 77.00 °F Short Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1 -3.91 % Long Term Fuel Trim - Bank 1 1.56 % Short Term Fuel Trim - Bank 2 -10.16 % Long Term Fuel Trim - Bank 2 0.00 % Intake Manifold Absolute Pressure 75.51 inHg Engine RPM 1,120.00 rpm Vehicle Speed Sensor 0.00 mph Monitor Name Monitor Icon Status MIL (Check Engine Light) ON Misfire Monitoring Complete Fuel System Monitoring Complete Comprehensive Component Monitoring Complete Catalyst Monitoring Not Supported Heated Catalyst Monitoring Not Supported Evaporative System Monitoring Not complete NMHC Monitoring Not Supported NOxAdsorber Monitoring Not Supported Secondary Air System Monitoring Complete Oxygen Sensor Monitoring Complete Oxygen Sensor Heater Monitoring Complete EGR System Monitoring Not Supported Boost Pressure System Monitoring Not Supported Exhaust Gas Sensor Monitoring Not Supported PM Filter Monitoring Not Supported And no, I'm not sure of anything. I have thought about that being the issue, but read that it is usually indicated by misfires on all of the same bank, which I don't get. I suppose anything is possible. Is there an easy way to check? Thanks!
  2. I have had these codes on misfires forever. I cannot get them to go away. I have had it in the shop and they replaced all coils and plugs. I replaced the MAF last week as a long shot just for the hell of it. Code resets itself after 7 clean starts. (Then will come back at some point). It is ALWAYS AT COLD FIRST START IDLE OF 1,120 RPM (first thing in the morning and no other time). Please help!
  3. What did you find out on your issue? I am having the exact same problem...exact.
  4. Just adding something to this old chain, since I just had a similar problem and it may help someone. My warning light has been coming on every single morning as my spoiler hits top. Spoiler operation has been fine, it goes up when it should, goes down when it should. Light only goes on first thing in the morning. The rest of the day no issues, no light. I opened it up yesterday and looked at the micro switches (compared the top and bottom switch). Looking at the switches and knowing that the light only goes on when the spoiler goes up tells me that the bottom switch is failing (it's telling the system that the spoiler is down and at the same time the top switch was telling the system that the spoiler was up). The bottom switch I could see was sticking a little. There is a little bend piece of metal that looks to act like a spring. and it's supposed to be bowed outward like this: [top ( bottom], but the bottom switch was like this instead: [ top ) bottom ]. I popped it outward and works great now. I may need to replace the switches at some point, but at least I have a temp fix and I know what the problem is. Hope that helps someone!
  5. Since I had filled up the day before, my thought was that mine was either cause by a bad fill-up, water getting in the fuel, or crud build-up on my injectors. So, once empty, I filled up with a bottle of techron and gas and went WOT as much as possible over the last week and I've had no problems. Hopefully I blew whatever it was out of there. Been running great.
  6. You guys have any changes since these posts? Any re-occurrence? Same thing happened to me yesterday. Drove a bit, parked, had heavy rain... when I got back in the car and started it up, I got the check engine light and it's cylinders 3 & 6 misfiring. I noticed no signs when I started it up, drove just like it should. Planning on clearing the codes and seeing what happens, but I guess it may be the coils. Plugs are new, dealer had the engine out for some trans work a few months ago and changes the plugs then. Could they have done anything? I don't want to bring it back there again. Paid WAY too much and the only reason I brought it there was that I expected the work I had done be paid by warrantly, but they denied it. No longer on warranty now. Thanks, Ben
  7. I have my car in the shop for my transmission (other post) and they noticed this sound as well with the clutch pedal depressed. They said the cause is the valve in a hydrolic hose (do not remember exactly) but I just sent the service guy an email asking what is being done. and can repost if you wish. I remember him saying that it is a big deal as it can lead to other bigger problems if unattended to.
  8. Okay, so over the past two year I've owned my 911TT, it has occasionally slipped out of 2nd gear while I'm driving. Pretty frustrating, but it didn't happen too often. My CPO warranty is almost at its end, so I thought I should bring it into Carlsen Porsche in Redwood City, CA. They looked at it, told me that their best guess is that it's covered under the warranty. They called me yesterday after having it for over a week and said that Porsche is denying the claim saying that it is due to how it was driven. What? How the hell could it be due to that? They said the gear and the synchro was severely worn in 2nd gear. No way in hell, unless I shifted without a clutch would I be able to do that in so few miles. I haven't raced or tracked the car, it's my daily driver. Nothing crazy. What do I do? (I called Porsched yesterday, started a "case" and they said someone would call me) but considering that this is a HUGE repair and not something that was done under my ownership, I don't feel liabile. I mean crap, that's why I bought the car from a dealer and paid more for a car with a CPO warranty! (FYI - I didn't buy it from Carlsen) Thanks in advance, Ben
  9. Update to this post... I was driving along Hwy 17 a few days ago, not speeding, my detector on... It didn't detect anything, this time either. I'm betting he used laser though. I got a better look at him since he was so close to me when I passed. It was a blue gun and he was looking through it to aim.
  10. WHy are you sure he used radar???? They generally don't have a 'selectable' gun, nor do they have a stockpile of various frequencies. CHP uses Ka. What kind of radar detector? where is it mounted? A I nver said anything about a "selectable" gun, I said he likely had X-Band. How do I know he used radar? Because he told me he clocked me at 83 Mph. Detector? Escort 9500i mounted on the windshield. Again, I'm not positive about anything he did since I didn't ask and I don't have a ticket that says what he used either...that's why I'm asking if anyone has seen X-Band recently. I now have my X-Band turned on my detector, so I'll be sure to report if I see anyone using it. Ben
  11. You guys got me thinking---maybe cops are starting to realize people are not detecting X. And all the false alarms are good camouflage for the real thing. Zap, instant revenue. Yeah, well the thing is, I saw about 15 highway patrol yesterday...they were everywhere! But every single one I saw was a patrol CAR using Ka Band, which is what they use 99% of the time here. The one that got me was a new looking MOTORCYCLE, so he either must have had X band, or he had some new technology. I suppose it's possible that he has laser and my detector didn't get it, but I don't even have a front plate, so I would think he would have a hard time. I wish I would have asked him, but y'll know that stupid saying about not biting a gift horse in the mouth or something like that. I was just happy not to get the ticket.
  12. Okay, so I was rushing home yesterday, not feeling well and I was speeding in the TT (go figure). On my radar detector, I have X-Band disabled as California has not used X-Band radar in years and don't remember the last time I saw an officer using X-Band. But he got me going 83, radar detector never went off. Anyone in CA noticed X-band recently or heard anything? And yes, thank goodness that I'm a giving guy and donated to the wonderful organization of the CHP 11-99 Foundation. It saved my behind just as it does for the spouses of those great officers. :thankyou: Ben
  13. Man, I'm sorry to hear that...that really sucks. Good news is that you still have a beautiful car. If that happened to me, I'd probably want to move, or build a steel and locked enclosure to park in... Can you rent an enclosed garage where you live? Maybe another option is to back your car in and go as far as you can without hitting the wall...it may at the very least show that flashing red light a little more clearly, and not advertise the turbo logo.
  14. I don't think that's true, but maybe someone else can confirm. In mine (996 TT) the rain sensor is integrated into the mirror mount. So, if your mirror mounts differently, it may be a problem.
  15. I hope none of you were cornering when you had the bad gas! (Sorry, I swear I couldn't help it. I needed some humor on this Monday) :clapping:
  16. Yeah, mine talks too. Pouts a lot also when I don't drive her. Fortunately, it doesn't snow here (or at least it's not supposed to). She really likes the rain except for getting dirty. I hear this WAY too much no matter what I do: Porsche: Wash me daddy!
  17. God, I've been meaning to ask this too. Mine is WAY off. I just installed the Kenwood DNX7100 and it says I'm going like 5 MPG less than I'm going. Can that be fixed? I mean hell, maybe it's good as it'll keep me from speeding a little, but over time, that's quite a bit of mileage that you "haven't" driven.
  18. There is a hole on the arm that I put a small locknut and bolt through and attached one of these: and then I bent it so the far end was level (I may have bent it before mounting). The antenna is magnetic and stuck right to it, no other mounting was necessary. It's now been there for months, and I haven't touched it, works flawlessly! I get great reception that is better than my other vehicle that came with sirius from the factory.
  19. I like it so far. I used to always have to fill my tires when I used compressed air. I guess I'll know for sure as time goes on, but it's off to a goos start.
  20. So wouldn't rapidly increasing tire pressure also increase your chances of losing air? How often are those that have nitrogen, finding they need to top off? White987s, are you just doing it every fall and that's all you find yourself needing?
  21. Just in case anyone wants to know... Looking at the diagram, I see that it looks like the amp is automatically switched on, and it's pretty clear to me that the current setup is using the amp or it wouldn't work without rewiring.
  22. Yeah, just reading this older thread... I like the idea of Helium...funny! So, I can't imagine that the Nitrogen fill is crap, since it's what my dealer put in my tires when I bought the car. And yes, I am pretty sure they did fill from a Nitrogen cannister, came with tag that had a serial number, and valve caps that look nice and say nitrogen on them. I suppose I could just ask the dealer, but I'm curious from others if they have this and if they've had to top it off or anything. After 3000 miles so far I my tires still have the same firm ride. The dealer I bought from was Fletcher Jones in Fremont, CA.
  23. I have an '02 996 TT with a Bose setup (Don't believe it's MOST as the system does not look rewired). The previous owner installed a Kenwood deck (KDCX990) and I am changing it out to the Kenwood DNX7100 Navigation unit and I have a couple questions. 1) Does someone have a wiring diagram of the factory wiring for this? 2) On the current wiring for the old Kenwood deck, I see it's connected via the speaker wires. I do not see any amp control wire connected. Does this mean that the system is not using the factory amp? The wiring diagram should answer my questions, but...does the factory amp turn on automatically and thus no need for the "amp control wire"? Or, would the amp therefore be off, and the wiring to the speakers just going through the amp(with it off) to the speakers? (It's pretty obvious that they did not rewire the car and I see the amp in the trunk). The only factory wires that I see not currently being used are: 1) Pink/Grey 2) Yellow/Black Thanks in advance for any help, Ben
  24. I've been using Amsoil for years and years in many vehicles. I'm not a dealer and I don't represent them. Doug, what makes you so sure Amsoil isn't better than the others? I see more proof that they are better than I see that they aren't. I open to whatever oil is best for my car. I have Mobile 1 in my 996 TT right now, but am tempted to change to see if another oil will create less oil burn, or make my engine run smoother, or get better mileage (as I have experienced with Amsoil in other vehicles). I haven't tried them all, and lots of people have different opinions, but when I do a search to see other opinions, the only consistency I see is that in this debate, that people are picking Amsoil. So, anyone else wanna chime in?
  25. Okay, so just a final update... I had some difficulty coordinating what the insurance was going to pay with what Cecil was asking, but we eventually got it close enough to work out well enough for me to be okay with it. I got the car back last week, and it looks fantastic. Cecil even painted my bumper guards for me at the same time as the bumper. Car looks great! I'm glad to have it back as I was going through withdrawals!!! -Ben
