  1. Oh baby, suddenly the beast is alive! :jump: Sounds muted until you are on it, then growls & barks in a melodious way! This is what I've been missing on the car since purchase ('02 C4S). Seems like I've picked up some BHP too, could be because I'm spending longer in the 4-7k range on the tach :lol: No droans or vibration, I'd recommend to anybody.
  2. Just had this installed at my local shop, they have installed many of these. All the throws are the same as far as I can tell. I was told to expect a "notchy" feel until it wore in, I think it feels great without wear! I was also warned about how weird an old style shifter will feel after getting used to it.
  3. I had heard the DME can be re-flashed for European look up tables allowing for performance increase. I had also heard of a few companies offering "piggy back" upgrades (an additional black box of electronics) allowing a less conservative fuel/timing algorithms. I defer collective to help provide more info.
  4. I had this happen to mine at 18k before I bought it (at 19k). Touch wood, I have 30k on the new engine with no further issues. If oil ends up throughout the bellhousing does that mean the clutch should have been replaced (not sure if this was done on mine)? No apparent clutch issues, just curious.
  5. Kam, At $96 each for the fronts I fully intend on replacing these once I'm comfortable with the SPTs. I feel kind of liberated having a cheap option to tear up in the 295's, this is a daily driver. The 4WD & PSM make evaluation more difficult so I value other opinions, thanks!
  6. Guys, I was looking for a replacement for my 295/30 rears & noticed Kumho were selling that size now, price on the 'Rack was $177 a piece versus $377 match my Michelins on the front! Did a little research and the only -ve I could find was that they were "cheap". Well, I figured worst case I'd gamble the price of a single Mich and dump them if they suck (also, I'm not averse to being cheap!). So far after a couple of hundred miles they appeared to be pretty good. I started making the tires work hard this morning and had the PSM kick in, it happened right at turn-in felt like it was slip at the front. Looking for a wet deserted parking lot to investigate further...will report back. Thinking it maybe something to do with the miss-match too. Anyone else tried them out?
  7. Have you tried using a good leather cleaner as a 1st step? I use a products by Lexol on the leather, the cleaner first then conditioner after drying. The oils and sweat from the skin affect the leather and the dye, cleaning may make the color much more acceptable. My sister-inlaw owns a restoration business I've seen her make a wheel look new using spray on dyes. It will likely cost less than a couple of hundred bucks to have the color matched and restored on the the few areas looking discolored. Lexol is one of the products she uses for cleaning and conditioning. I would definately try cleaning it first.
  8. I purchased a car this way, that is exactly how I justified it to myself. Better a fresh factory motor than one that's been messed around with. Also there are so many of the 996s out there I'm not sure matching engine numbers would be as big a deal as with a classic car. The other thing I'm getting accustom to with 911s; dropping the engine is not a big deal. With my other cars you always had the feeling things didn't go back the way they were. Break your engine in correctly and enjoy! :D

  11. -Ve lead is ok for current measurement, although I think AR was referring to using a amp meter. This would provide an absolute value. So the light stayed on through removing every fuse, didn't dim at any point?
  12. Not sure if it is just a turbo car issue. My '02 911 has done the same but not consistently. Took it to the dealer "couldn't reproduce issue" & no error codes or anything. :unsure:
  13. Thanks guys. Did a little research on prices. A low mileage '02 C4S appears to be going for around 45k pounds, current exchange rates (1.80) put that around $80k or a little less than I paid for my car new! I would have to come up with another $25k to get an equivalent if I sold my car for $55k. How difficult would it be to get used to driving a LHD car in the UK? I normally have no issues driving over there, but the wheel is on the correct side on a rental! Any other challenges in th UK for P-cars (sales tax, registration & Insurance)?
  14. Guys, I'm considering a work related move from the US to the UK and need to make some decisions on my car. I have an '02 911 C4S , obviously it is a LH drive car (strike one). Wondering whether it would make any sense shipping the car with me? Alternative would be to sell here in the US (guessing around $55k) and purchase another car there, what would a comparable car cost? Besides being a left hooker, if I didn't have to pay shipping would this be a sensible financial decision. Are there any other pitfalls I need to lookout for here, the car is a daily driver? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

You also have drivers Ed through the local chapter of the PCA (Gold Coast Region), holding events at Homestead & Sebring.   18. Came home from work last week and put the car in the garage, shut the door. Went back to get something out of the car and heard the fan running. It went off after a while and came back on again. It was a particularly hot day in S. Florida, garage was sweltering. Seemed to act the way described in Loren's post. I wondered how often the car "came alive" when I wasn't looking :D
  19. European Car magazine reported on a 19" upgrade and found "suspension needed further development" (couple of months ago I think). If memory serves me correctly a 996TT. Hopefully I haven't thrown the mag away and can dig the article up.

  21. Well I became the "blue taped terror" and had a blast on the track and off. Painters tape worked great for 2 days at Sebring, though took a lot of time to apply. I'll probably invest in a more conventional solution next time. now I know how much fun it is!

  23. Well done Damian, getting to rock concert levels! How did they measure it; at what distance and orientation with the car, in the open or near any walls?
