  1. Try 6980 or 6978 hmmm...i tried both and on the 3rd try it went into WAIT mode. Is this in lock mode now? Do i need to disconnect the battery again? brian
  2. good afternoon Loren. I need some Radio Code assistance. I replaced my starter motor this weekend and disconnected the battery. Here is my info 1999 C4 - Brian Mohr VIN WPOAA2997XS624228 Becker 1 4462 W5006410 30/98 gal 1 (whatever that is) Danke!
  3. Finally tackled my starter motor, air and electric changeover valve replacement this weekend. Everything mostly ok except little plastic parts that are extremely brittle and snap like balsa wood:( Example in pic below(part # 996.106.226.51). But the main issue for me is the ALTERNATOR!!! Is there some sort of magic trick to get this thing back in place?!?!?!?! I've been working on it for quite some time now and can't get it in and rotated back into place....it's killling me!!! Thanks for letting me vent. oh and now i partially snapped the curled electric changer over pipe and have it wrapped in electricians tape, classic huh:( lol bmohr 1999 C4
  4. 1999 C4. bought last summer at 83k and now have 95k on it. Car runs great. had a few minor issues like water pump failure, air changeover valve and starter replacement. Other than that it drives very strong and just hoping all is kosher on the exploding engine front! lol. I bought it with the higher miles because it seemed most of the major engine issues occured from 25-75k miles. Of course my fingers are crossed, but no leaks and running strong. bmohr
  5. I must have ordered a wrong part then. My pollen filter is rectangular and easy to replace, but the "cabin" filter, so labeled has an iregular shape. Oh well, thanks for the heads up...saves me the wild goose chase! Thanks loren bmohr
  6. stupid question i'm sure, but i was servicing my car this last weekend and ran into a funny dilema. I have a cabin filter and a pollen filter. Pollen filter was easy to find and replace....so where does the cabin filter go? I can't find it's location. It's got a funny shape so i thought it would be easy to find. sorry for the noob question! bmohr
  7. 1999 C4 - 92,000 MILES. Bought it last summer with 81k on it. Daily driver. Replaced starter, air/electric change over valves, water pump, coolant take and fuel filter. Really no major issues. Most everything is DIY so far. Planning on and hoping for a long life on engine before i get it replaced with new motor or TT!!
  8. LIGHTFALL. I follow your train of thought, but dude...most of the questions you are asking you can get by yourself. Just call a freaking warrantee company already and get some answers. No one can "measure" or limit your risk for you. Buy it or don't already. bmohr
  9. what is the 4th stalk and what hack are you talking about? Please explain in noobspeak so i can understand:) lol bmohr
  10. fk..that doesn't look good:( Sorry to hear about your troubles Kellyclark. I commend you on trying to get porsche to get off their asses and help out..too bad they don't delve into their enormous profits to help these cases out a bit. A little corporate love/help would go LONG way with keeping people in the marque. bmohr
  11. hey porsche3...how long have you used your K&N Air Filter? I've heard so much crp about them, but i've been fine since i've installed it over 6000 miles. But I always get nervous with rain storms, because of the warning on the KN box (not to be used during inclement weather, if so, return to stock during these conditions). Being my 1999 996 is a daily driver that isnt' possible. LMK what you think. Thanks bmohr
  12. just noticed a very similar sound coming from the same area today driving to work:( I currently have a P0410 code and need to look at replacing my air and electric changeover valves to see if that fixes the problem(yes my air pump works:). Do you have any current CEL's?
  13. great article on rms repair! Very informative!

  14. Anyone buy or have feedback from this vendor - GMOTOGARAGE? He is selling 996 headers for $150 bucks. Probably trash huh? Anyone do business with him? bmohr
  15. will post pics tomorrow..but followed all the great advice..clay bar and Meguires NXT next generation wax 2.0 and I'm extremely happy with the results! Thanks for all the advice!! Bmohr
  16. i've read your posts john. So i know your pissed. The reason I'm even poking my nose around this subject is because I've been noticing "milk chocolate" like stuff in my oil tube. Nothing in the coolant reservoir. The car has no leaks and drives great, but I the milk chocolate/orangish looking film/puddle in my oil tube seems to match alot of other peoples issues right before they got the news of a blown engine. So obviously I was trying to do a bit more in-depth research to see what are the best and cost effective options out there "in case" my engine follows similar failure patterns. For now I'm just going to start by draining my oil this weekend and get a good look at it. If it looks good I will try to forget the anxiety fueled obsession i've created by reading these many similar posts and especially Hartechs write up. Sorry to stir the hornets nest!! lol bmohr
  17. yes..one of the first articles I read. Your right though, oil changes, updated maintainance and paying attention to your powerplant will go far for any car, but the hartech article seemed to point to a rather 'impending' design flaw. I thought getting over 200k on a porsche wouldn't be a problem considering every mercedes, audi and even volkswagon(long live the sciracco) made it to over 200k at least! oh well. still love the car - not mad at it:) bmohr
  18. yes..i was thinking about that when reading it. Plus, it's funny how conclusive he makes the impending denoation of our 996 engines, but then states at the end that most cars run perfectly fine! Oh well. Probably a bit of truth in there somewhere, but your point is well taken. I just hope I don't have to shell out 10 grand in a few K miles!
  19. I just got finished reading Hartech's write up on 3.4 and 3.6 engine issues. Very informative. The bottom line seems to be that almost all of these engines will fail due to a thin wall and liner. It seems every engine they look at has "creep" or a ovaling of the cylinders. Long story short, our engines will seize/crack/explode from 50k - 150k miles. Not so bad if you make it to 150..but damm, It bothers me to find out they manufactored these things with such a weak spot! Basically have to calculate 10-15 grand in the near future. This article also makes the super charger issue seem closed. If these liners will distort and crack with normal loads then they will have a quicker trip to engine death with one installed. Anyone else read this article? Thoughts? http://www.hartech.org/buyers.html Part 4 contains the 996 engine issues pdf
  20. thanks for the link john! Your car after detailing looks amazing! Those are the results i'm looking to achieve! brian
  21. rattles. I have the same ocean blue metallic C4. I'm new to the self detailing job as far as waxes, clays etc are concerned. Can you give me some more details on how you do your routine? I don't even know what a "clay" or "claybar" is? Much less how or why it's used. Any advice would be great! Thanks bmohr
  22. I have a 1999 C4 and you describe the exact thing I hear going over bumbs.....old rusty mattress!! Any feedback and advice would be great on this problem.... whether to fix it or get used to the sqeeks:)
