  1. I had a Passport SR7 installed in the DC storage bin area below the radio in my 2003 C4S last year and it has been very helpful driving from Boston to VT. It is amazing how many times the thing goes off and I notice 3 or 4 minutes later the speed trap.
  2. Thanks everyone. my car only has about 2500 miles so it is still a new engine. From what I hear above, I do not need to worry unless the oil consumption gets worse. Doug
  3. Hello, I have a C4S that I have had to add about a quart of oil over less than 3000 miles. How much oil use is normal? I have never added oil to my Audis. This car is my first Porsche and with all the electronic monitoring of oil level, I figured these engines must burn more oil than more conventional German engines found in your typical sedan. However my friend who has a C2 claims he never adds oil. Should I be worried? No drops have been found on the garage floor.
  4. The car had never been registered, it was driven by the dealer only. The only problem was a dead battery on cold day in January that I replaced. The final number was $76,000 down from $09,000. So far I'm thinking it was a pretty good deal. Now you are making me nervous.
  5. I bought a 2003 C4S at about your price point last year at this time with similar miles. It has been a great car, but the 997S was not available then and I have to say if it was I might have one. Doug
  6. Hello, I am interested to know the significance of the "sequence number" which comprises the last for digits of the VIN number. For instance my 2003 C4S has a last four of 1098. Does this mean it is the 1098th C4S made in 2003? Do people know how many are made each year? Would this mean it was produced early in the production run or late? Thanks Doug
  7. Similar situation occurred with my 2003 C4S last month. I had to replace battery, but once I did car ran fine and radio worked without having to reprogram with code. Battery was not completely dead though, dash lights still functioned, just would not turn over in zero degree weather after sitting for two months without a start or a trickle charger. Doug
  8. If you are getting a coupe get the Porsche, if however you want to put the top all the way down the M spyder has had my eye for along time. Doug
  9. Can anyone provide info as to the frequency of RMS problem occurring in 996's over 1999-20004. Are there more in 99-00 than 03-04?
  10. I am relatively new with all things Porsche, but went to start my car Saturday and would not turn over. Lights came on on dash, but that was all. Have an Audi with jumper cables and followed directions in P manual to jump. When turned ignition the car turned over but would not start. AAA came with portable jumper and same result. Went to dealer told needed new battery. Installed new battery all works fine. Told old battery is no good anymore. I bought this car in July 2004 new (probably sat on lot for a year) as was a left over 2003 model. Car has only 1800 miles and is driven weekly when weather is good. But has was driven last about 6 weeks ago - about thirty miles. Question: Why did battery die so soon? How well can these batteries tolerate cold? I'm not sure I can get electric to use the battery maintainer in the current storage location though I did purchase one the other day along with the new battery. Will I kill this new battery just as soon of I leave in the cold without a battery maintainer with out starting in more frequently. How frequently do I need to start it? Thanks for any advise.
  11. Gary, I picked up my C4S July 31st and have had the exact same concerns having never had a 911 or an oil pressure gauge before either. I found out about this site the other day and put oil pressure in the search engine and your post came up; which has served to allay all my concerns. Thank you Gary and Mike. Doug
